VRZOO Emaar Entertainment, Dubai Aquarium and Wevr Launch Virtual Reality Zoo Experience

Emaar Entertainment has partnered Wevr to launch a brand new virtual reality zoo experience at Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo.

VRZOO harnesses cutting-edge technology to deliver a conservation message by bringing guests face to face with endangered species.

Paul Hamilton, General Manager & Curator at Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, described the new attraction as the next step in diversifying the zoo’s educational programmes.

“The experience brings adventurers closer than ever to incredible creatures such as African Elephants and Dugongs,” he explained. “They can come face-to-face in a way that’s not possible in the wild. It is frightening to think that some of these species may only live on in VR for future generations.”

The new attraction offers users two VR options: a live-action encounter or a CGI virtual experience.

The live-action option transports guests to locations around the world including Uganda, South Africa, Maldives, Egypt and Australia. Here, they encounter a whole range of endangered species in their native environments.

The CGI option uses a specially customised version of Wevr’s VR experience ‘theBlu: Season 1’. In this adventure, guests explore the wonders of the ocean’s varied habitats and the creatures that live there.

“VRZOO is designed to broaden the mind and provide deeper connections to the world around us, using informative and interactive platforms,” commented Maitha Al Dossari, Chief Executive Officer of Emaar Entertainment.

“It demonstrates our commitment to education as we work toward a safe and more informed future for animals and humans alike.”

The virtual reality attraction is the latest in a number of cutting-edge installations at Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo. The venue is home to the world’s first interactive digital shark cage and has recently introduced interactive robot sharks.

“We want people to feel a connection to the animals. We hope it leads to awareness and a deeper desire to get involved in conservation initiatives,” added Hamilton.
