Katapult, the international guest experience design agency, has designed and rolled out a new experience for eight LEGOLAND parks around the world, in collaboration with The LEGO Group and Merlin Entertainments.

Visitors to LEGOLAND parks in Windsor, Billund, Deutschland, California, Florida, Malaysia, Japan and New York can now enjoy the brand new PLANET LEGOLAND immersive experience, where they can build, unbuild and rebuild their ultimate theme park.

Rebuild the World

For this project, Katapult provided strategy, design, audio design and executive production services. PLANET LEGOLAND is part of The LEGO Group’s Rebuild the World campaign.

The focal point of the PLANET LEGOLAND experiences is a two-metre-wide globe, where visitors can attach their own creations. There are also build tables, with LEGO models to inspire guests and communicate the campaign’s message of creativity. Katapult worked with the LEGO workshop to create these models, which include things like a tortoise with a rocket pack and wheels.

The company also created branded signage and decor for both the interior and exterior of the existing spaces.

“Working with Katapult to deliver our Rebuild The World Planet LEGOLAND experience across LEGOLAND Parks globally has been a pleasure,” says Martin Weber Thomsen from The LEGO Group.

“Katapult has done an exceptional job driving the project seamlessly from ideation through to execution, overcoming and responding to the many challenges faced during these difficult COVID times. We are very excited to have kids and parents getting creative at LEGOLAND Parks by unlocking their creative potential together via this high-quality hands-on experience.”

Katapult’s Project Producer, Jonathan Bonner, adds: “It has been a pleasure to work with The LEGO Group on this exciting, global project. As LEGO fans ourselves, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed creating an immersive experience that we know both children and adults will love. From the local teams at LEGOLAND parks to our specialist build partners, I’m proud of our achievements in a year of disruption.”

Last year, Katapult began working with Portmagee Whiskey Experience and Seine Boat Visitor Centre in County Kerry on a new visitor experience, celebrating local stories from the area as well as Portmagee’s award-winning, triple-distilled whiskey.
