Carlo Ratti to deliver opening address at ISE 2018

Leading architect, inventor and educator, Carlo Ratti, is to give the opening address at Integrated Systems Europe 2018.

Ratti’s speech will follow shortly after the conclusion of the one-day Smart Building Conference.

‘I am delighted to be giving the Opening Address at ISE 2018,” confirmed Ratti. “Social and technological developments in the evolution of smart cities and smart buildings are quickly shaping how we must plan to work and live in the future. I look forward to sharing my thoughts and experiences with the ISE audience.’

Ratti was named one of the ‘50 most influential designers in America’ by Fast Company and highlighted in Wired Magazine’s ‘Smart List: 50 people who will change the world.’

He is a founding partner of the international design and innovation office Carlo Ratti Associati (CRA) and directs the Senseable City Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The Senseable City Lab is a research group that explores how new technologies are influencing the way we understand, design and live in cities.

A leading researcher who puts theory into practice

Carlo Ratti Associati has been involved in many notable projects including the masterplan for a creative hub in the City of Guadalajara and the Digital Water Pavilion at Expo Zaragoza 2008. The pavilion was listed among the ‘Best Inventions of the Year’ by Time magazine.

In each project, Ratti’s studio looked at how new technologies, such as digital sensors and portable devices, are transforming both the built environment and everyday life. Projects from the studio have been exhibited in the Venice Biennale, New York’s MoMA and the Istanbul Design Biennial among others.

“Carlo Ratti is a perfect fit for ISE as he works in a field that has grown in importance for our exhibitors and attendees,” explains Mike Blackman, Managing Director of Integrated Systems Europe.

“He will bring a unique insight into smart city and smart building development. Not only is he a leading researcher and educator, he puts the theory into practice with his award-winning architectural designs and inventions around the world.”
