SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary and the Cornish Seal Sanctuary are running a series of live streams, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the SEA LIFE Trust’s sanctuaries during COVID-19.
SEA LIFE Trust temporarily closed the visitor centre at the Beluga Whale Sanctuary from March 18 until further notice. Cornish Seal Sanctuary is also closed.
“During this temporary closure our dedicated team will continue to provide the best possible care for the belugas, puffins and other animals in our sanctuary,” reads a statement.
The first live session offered a look at caring for the Beluga Whale Sanctuary’s first residents, Little White and Little Grey, who travelled 6,000 miles via air, land and sea from an aquarium in Shanghai.
The two belugas were transported in custom-made slings designed to their exact physical requirements, and were then placed in tailored containers.

The SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary is one of the biggest developments in captive whale and dolphin care and protection in decades and the first of its kind to be created for cetaceans.
The following live stream at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary invited viewers to meet the residents, who are grey seal pups from around the coastline of Cornwall.
Next up will be a ‘Puffin Feed’ live stream from the Beluga Whale Sanctuary, as well as ‘Enrichment Time’ with the Cornish Seal Sanctuary.
‘Puffin Feed’ takes place at 2pm on Wednesday (April 1), while ‘Enrichment Time’ is at 2pm on Thursday (April 2).

In addition, SEA LIFE Trust has launched the Cornish Seal Sanctuary Seal School, inviting people to join them on Mondays for the latest edition of the home education package, which is free to download.
There are six workbooks and adult answer books, which cover six weeks of education. Topics include ‘changing world’, ‘seals and sea lions’, and ‘ocean habitats and marine mammals’.
