Sim Leisure Group, a Dubai-based theme park developer and operator, is looking to expand to China and the Asean region. The company owns and operates the Escape theme park in Penang.

According to EdgeProp.my, Sim Leisure wants to replicate the success of Escape, with a focus on China and the Asean region, such as Indonesia and Thailand.

“We are serious about our expansion plan in Asia,” Sim Leisure founder and CEO Sim Choo Kheng told the publication.

“We plan to be a serious contender in the leisure and entertainment business by targeting affordable and quality family entertainment with our quirky idea.”

In September 2018, Sim Leisure entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Fei County Wonder Stone Characteristic Town Development Co Ltd.

This involved undertaking the design and operation of a theme park in Linyi City, Shandong Province, China.

Over the past 25 years, Sim Leisure has completed more than 300 projects globally.

These include Bollywood and Motiongate (Dubai), Yas Waterworld (Abu Dhabi), Legoland (Denmark and Malaysia), and Universal Studios (Singapore).

Escape is an outdoor adventure theme park and water park, and includes approximately 40 themed rides and attractions in three categories – Adventureplay, Waterplay and Gravityplay.

“Our approach to the theme park and leisure industry is new as we see things from a different lens,” added Sim.

“We are breaking records through our own unique way of doing things, not by throwing money away for the sake of record-breaking achievements.

“We intend to revolutionise the theme park industry. We will be generating more ‘smiles per hour’ across the region where people are eagerly awaiting a new genre of affordable and healthy family entertainment.”
