Holovis to unveil next-gen personalised ride concept Ride & Realm at IAAPA Expo

Innovative creator of immersive experiences, Holovis, is set to launch a brand new, next-generation ride concept, Ride & Realm, at next week’s IAAPA Expo 2017 in Orlando.

Harnessing the company’s real-time media expertise, Ride & Realm combines an interactive, multi-variant dark ride with an app that extends the narrative out into the theme park.

The experience begins with a media-based attraction that immerses guests in an engaging story. The ride uses on-board interactive technology that allows guests to control their own adventure. But, the personalisation doesn’t end there.

The dark ride evolves to reflect guests’ progress

As they leave the ride, guests can download an app to continue the adventure beyond the confines of the dark ride. They’re required to solve puzzles and unlock achievements, before returning to the starting point, where the experience in the dark ride will have evolved to reflect their progress.

“Ride and Realm presents a near limitless experiential attraction that is always different and truly re-rideable. Whatever you do within the ride or across the park has a real-time impact into the adventure that unfolds before you,” says Peter Cliff, Creative Director at Holovis.

Every guest has a truly personalised experience. New media scenes and game play opportunities are unlocked each time they achieve pre-set goals.

The system uses proximity beacons, geofencing and WIFI triangulation to enable players to navigate the attraction space using a live, digital map. Clues to guide guests on the scavenger hunt and help them level up can be unlocked in a number of ways.

These range from Augmented Reality (AR) to engagements with live actors, as well as on-screen mini games and interaction with park-wide digital signage. It could also be done through achievements that can be logged, such as encouraging players to experience other attractions in the park.

A revolution in park-wide personalisation

“This is more than just gamification and non-linearity; this is letting people determine their own destiny whilst being at the heart of a multidimensional, compelling narrative,” continues Cliff.

“We see this concept expanding so that all park-wide media, both on and off rides, react differently for every individual, depending on where they are in their game and evolving storyline. This is a true revolution in theme park-wide personalisation.”

According to Holovis, the experience could also be extended beyond the park. The app could offer games and tasks to complete at home. These would impact the in-park narratives to deliver a different experience when guests next visit the park.
