Seibuen, an amusement park located near Tokyo in Tokorozawa, is opening the world’s first permanent Godzilla ride on May 19, 2021.

Seibuen Amusement Park, which has been renovated during its COVID-19 closure, is holding a grand reopening on May 19 when it will debut the Godzilla ride.

Known as Godzilla the Ride: Great Kaiju Decisive Dominance Battle, the attraction is seemingly a dark ride where guests witness a showdown between Godzilla and King Ghidorah.

The world’s first permanent Godzilla ride is located in a cinema building at the end of a shopping street inspired by Japan’s Shōwa era (1926 to 1989).

The Seibuen website describes the ride as “an unprecedented shocking experience that attacks you soon after breathing with an unprecedented overwhelming scale and quality”.

Seibuen said the ride will “sweep you up in a whirlpool of transcendental excitement” as it “never stops to give you a chance to catch your breath”.

Godzilla ride is the “ultimate entertainment”

CG visuals for the attraction were directed by Takashi Yamazaki, a Japanese film director, screenwriter and visual effects director whose credits include Lupin III: The First.

“Unexpected developments that are approaching one after another are too thrilling,” reads the website. “It’s the ultimate entertainment.”

Godzilla is big business in Japan, as Nijigen no Mori theme park recently launched a vast Godzilla model as part of its Godzilla-themed expansion.

“As far as we know, this is the only life-size Godzilla statue ever built,” said a spokesperson for Pasona Group, the recruitment company operating Nijigen no Mori Park (via BBC).

The attraction can be found on Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture. The Godzilla area boasts a zip line and shooting game for visitors to take out Godzilla’s radioactive cells.
