PortAventura World has announced that it will start accepting Bitcoin payments in 2022. In the first phase, the resort will be accepting Bitcoin payments at its hotels.
Located close to Barcelona, PortAventura World features six hotels offering 2,300 rooms, as well as the PortAventura and Ferrari Land theme parks and Caribe Aquatic Park.
PortAventura World is currently developing software so that visitors can use Bitcoin at its hotels, with the initiative launching at the beginning of the 2022 season.
PortAventura World said visitors will be able to carry out transactions in a flexible, simple and secure way by using Bitcoin, the digital currency that will be accepted in the initial stages.

David García Blancas, managing director of PortAventura World, said “the push for initiatives such as this one allows us to become aligned with the latest trends and satisfy the needs of our guests”.
He said these factors “are essential in order to strengthen our position as a leading and innovator company in the entertainment industry”.
The Bitcoin project was developed as part of the company’s attempts to increase digitalisation and innovation, which includes a joint venture with football league LaLiga.
“We are deeply immersed in a process of digital acceleration with the aim of improving the experience of our visitors and continuing to promote new and innovative ways of entertainment,” García Blancas added.
PortAventura World will continue to invest in digital transformation initiatives, including in digital tools within the park to improve the visitor experience.
PortAventura World is one of the largest leisure destinations in Europe, welcoming more than 90 million visitors in its 26-year history.
Last year, PortAventura World announced that the entire resort is carbon neutral, making the attraction in Spain a benchmark for sustainable tourism in Europe.
