Meet the exhibitors at IAAPA Expo Europe 2021

Attractions industry will meet in person once more in Barcelona this September

Attractions industry professionals will once again be able to meet in person to learn, network, share ideas, and discover new products and services when IAAPA Expo Europe 2021 takes place next week.

The event will be held at Fira Barcelona Gran Via, with the conference taking place from 27 – 30 September and the trade show taking place from 28 – 30 September. It will feature a full conference agenda with keynotes, industry presentations, panel discussions and workshops, allowing attendees to explore trends, new ideas and interesting case studies.

Meanwhile, hundreds of companies will be showcasing their latest innovations on the 14,000 net-square-meter trade show floor.

Conference highlights

The event kicks off with the Opening Ceremony, which is free for all, followed by a keynote from Doug Lansky, a travel journalist and tourism advisor, on “How to Future-Proof the Attractions Industry”.

Other highlights include a CEO Talk, where attendees can gain insights from leaders in the industry. The speakers for this event will be Pia Adlivankin, CEO, Linnanmäki Amusement Park, Juliana Delaney, Chief Executive, Continuum AttractionsRosa Ortiz, CEO, Tibidabo and John Wood, Chairman and CEO, Sally Dark Rides.

There will also be an informal event called Cheers to Our Mistakes. Three industry leaders will open up about their biggest professional failures, showing how attendees can learn and advance in their careers by learning from their own mistakes. Speakers are Andreas Veilstrup Andersen, CEO & President, Liseberg Group and Jim Pattison, Jr., Ripley Entertainment Inc. and Amanda Thompson, OBE, ICAE, Managing Director, Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

The host country, Spain, will also be celebrated with a special event looking at the future plans of some of its most popular attractions, like PortAventura World and Tibidabo. The president of AEPA (The Spanish National Attractions Association) will also discuss the future of attractions. Plus, a CEO panel will explore the future of the industry.

IAAPA Expo Europe will also include some separately priced and ticketed events, such as the annual leadership breakfast, which this year will be opened by Fernando Aldecoa, PortAventura World Managing Director and COO. Then, life consultant Sam Conniff will lead an interactive workshop called “How to be More Pirate – Leadership with a Twist.”

Plus, Expo participants can choose to attend an opening reception at Tibidabo, or a Sustainability Day or an EDUTour at PortAventura World. There will also be a Water Park Day, the Young Professionals Forum and more.

From 28 – 30 September, companies from across the attractions industry will be showcasing their products and services at the IAAPA Expo Europe 2021 trade show. Here are some of the highlights:

Simworx – booth #2-664

A leader in the design and manufacture of media-based attractions, Simworx will be highlighting its new Alpine Racer VR attraction as it expands further into the FEC market. This is a dynamic yet compact and affordable solution that provides an immersive experience, as guests get a taste of high-speed sledging.

In addition, the team will also be offering insights into the company’s latest Fly Motion Attraction. This is a hybrid of its Immersive Tunnel and Cobra Dark Ride Theatres. It offers a more accessible Flying Theatre experience for locations with lower ceilings. Fly Motion has a 30 seat capacity, as well as an optional track system that allows guests to board in a separate loading area before moving through for a grand reveal. The combination of dynamic motion, special effects, surround sound and 3D film creates a unique flying adventure.

Recently, Simworx delivered the Reodor Felgen’s Hyperakselerator ride for Hunderfossen Eventyrpark in Norway, featuring characters from Norwegian author and illustrator Kjell Aukrust’s Flåklypa Universe. The ride features four Simworx 8-seater Stargazers with 6DOF motion simulators. It is themed to represent the Hyperakselerator from the story complete with on-board special effects, such as water spray, wind, and leg ticklers, as well as an ‘interactive’ Hyper boost button.

The company also recently announced that it is bringing in Paul Kent to the role of Global Business Development Manager.

Attractions.io, a leading creator of mobile visitor apps, will be demonstrating how its technology drives guest satisfaction and spend by connecting operators to guests throughout the entire guest journey.

Intamin – booth #1-625

Intamin, a creator of record-breaking amusement rides, will also be present on the trade show floor, showcasing the completely upgraded version of its Surf Family coasters, as well as providing news and updates on many other rides.

Earlier this year, the company celebrated the opening of a brand new ride, Legendary Twin Dragon at Sunac Land in Chongqing, China. This is the highest and fastest Double Twisted Impulse Coaster in the world.

Lagotronics Projects – booth #1-226

Lagotronics Projects, the media-based attractions specialist, will be promoting its latest attraction concept at IAAPA Expo Europe 2021, Battle Arena.

This new interactive ride concept allows visitors to compete with each other over three levels, while their vehicles move suddenly up and down. Battle Arena can be installed indoors or outdoors at theme parks, amusement parks and FECs. These unexpected movements mean that the battlefield is constantly changing, for a dynamic ride that is different each time.

Players can gain points by aiming at targets. They can also steal points from their opponents, as well as finding bonus, hard-to-hit targets dotted around the ride. Guests can play as individuals, by gondola, or as a team with multiple gondolas. An integrated scoring system keeps track and allows riders to compare their scores at the end. This encourages them to repeat the experience in order to gain high scores.

Last year, Lagotronics Projects was commissioned to update the technology of Stalen Monsters at Utrecht’s Railway Museum.

Rainbow Productions – booth #2-1658

James Barlow Rainbow Productions IAAPA Expo Europe 2021

Following a successful trip to the Saudi Entertainment and Amusement Show earlier this
month, Rainbow Productions, a leading character events company and mascot manufacturer,  will return to IAAPA Expo Europe.

Convious, a leading eCommerce platform for the leisure industry, will be at IAAPA Expo Europe 2021, where the team will be promoting its SaaS solution, under the slogan “So much more than ticketing.

This summer, it announced that its new flying theatre, SkyFly: Soar America, is now open to the public at The Island in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. This fully-themed attraction is the most technologically advanced flying theatre ever. Dynamic Attractions has also announced that its parent company, formerly known as Empire Industries, is now operating under the name of Dynamic Technologies Group.

From its Attraction Design Center in Orlando and Vancouver, the specialized team provides turn-key attraction development services.

wiegand.waterrides – booth #2-361

wiegand.waterrides, a leading water rides and attraction provider, will be highlighting its new Gamewave at the expo, which recently made its debut in Bavaria. This adds gamification and interactivity to one of the company’s most popular products, the stainless-steel tumble slide. The first Gamewave has already proved to be a hit with visitors at an open-air swimming pool in Zellingen, Germany.

The slide encourages guests to compete in pairs to get the highest score. They have 15 seconds to reach six touchpoints in the slide walls, all while maintaining body control on the 17.5m long, wavy slide before splashing down at the end. Spectators can also enjoy the attraction, as a scoreboard shows how many touchpoints the riders have hit. It also encourages repeat rides as guests try to hit more points on their next go.

Another recent innovation from the company is its full-face VR snorkelling mask.

Frontgrid – booth #2-664

Frontgrid, an expert in adventure leisure and virtual reality attractions, will be on hand to demonstrate ParadropVR, its award-winning VR flying experience.

ParadropVR can be found in ten countries worldwide, and counting. This proven business model and ROI brings together motion-based hardware and gamified VR content. The attraction can also be creatively themed to fit in with different locations. This allows visitors to explore a wide variety of environments from mountains and deserts to outer space.

Frontgrid recently worked with Oasys MassMotion’s sophisticated pedestrian simulation tool in order to configure the ideal location of its ParadropVR units. It has also been working on new upgrades for ParadropVR

Katapult – booth #2-569

Katapult, the international guest experience design agency, will be exhibiting at IAAPA Europe Expo 2021 as part of the Experience UK stand. Katapult-Al Hokair Group-2021

This follows a successful visit to the SEA Show in Riyadh, where the company entered into a new agreement with Al Hokair Group, a hospitality and entertainment company based in the Middle East. Together, they will work on developing the strategy, guest experience and design of next-gen themed attractions in the region.

Earlier this year, the company worked with The LEGO Group and Merlin Entertainments to create a new experience at 11 LEGOLAND Discovery Centers, the DOTS Festival. 

JRA – booth #2-752

The team from JRA, a leading experience designer, will be talking about several recent projects at IAAPA Expo Europe as they connect with visitors to their booth. This includes The FRIENDS Experience, which has been popular across the US with a sell-out debut in New York, as well as stops in Boston, Chicago, and Atlanta.

Following this success, Superfly X and Warner Bros. produced a two-floor flagship attraction in NYC. This is home to more set recreations, authentic props, and merchandise, as well as a café within Central Perk. JRA collaborated with Superfly X’s internal creative and production teams to provide planning, design and implementation for both the pop-up and flagship experiences.

FRIENDS-Monica-Room

The company also provided master planning and design for Nickelodeon PLAYTIME in Shenzhen, Nickelodeon’s first FEC in China. This 1,800-square-metre FEC is a collaboration between China Leisure Development Co. and ViacomCBS International Media Networks. It is home to four attraction zones, featuring SpongeBob SquarePants, PAW Patrol, Dora the Explorer, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There is also Nickelodeon-branded retail and a sit-down play café.

Other recent projects include Kidzplorer, a STEAM oriented play-centre at Hongkong Land’s The Ring, Chongqing. In collaboration with Star Group, JRA provided master planning and design for the attraction. Plus, JRA is teaming up with Cortina Productions to provide planning and design for a new children’s sports attraction, TheZone, in Jamestown, New York.

Interlink – booth #1-420

Interlink IAAPA Expo Europe

Interlink, a leading water ride designer and manufacturer, will be at IAAPA Expo Europe 2021, where team members will be ready to talk about new additions to its product range with attendees.

These include the new Panoramic Tower with a Bar Viewing platform. This is ideal for any destination tourist area, or even for providing a panoramic overview inside a theme park. Also on show will be the company’s new compact Water Coaster and Compact Water Battle ride.  These are a twist on the larger style of each ride; designed to fit in a more compact area within the park.

Last year, Interlink signed a contract with Qetaifan Projects. It will be designing, manufacturing and installing a SuperFlume ride for Qetaifan Island North.

Sunkid – booth #2-766

Sunkid, a leading provider of attractions for the whole family, will be launching its new Family Ride, The Sunrider at the show.

This family-friendly ride invites guests to power their ride at their own pace, by pulling and pushing hand levers. It also has plenty of potential for fun theming, from galloping horses to hopping rabbits.

Earlier this year, Sunkid also announced that it has brought its popular Sunkid Tower attraction to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, California

Embed – booth #2-770

Embed, a leading worldwide supplier of point-of-sale and revenue management systems, will be offering free product demos of the Mobile Wallet and TOOLKIT, as well as handing out free wearable media.

Walltopia – booth #2-161

Walltopia, a world leader in the climbing and adventure & leisure industries, will be speaking with attendees about how its attractions can boost revenue for a range of projects. The company offers solutions across adventure parks, amusement parks, malls, FECs, gyms, recreational areas, hotels and more.

Amongst the products on show at Walltopia’s booth will be its new Digital Product Configurators, designed to improve the process of creating concepts for active entertainment attractions. Simtec Systems – booth #1-440

Simtec Systems, a leader in motion simulation, will be exhibiting at IAAPA Expo Europe 2021 and visitors can drop by the company’s booth to learn more about its simulator entertainment attractions, including the FUNRIDE motion-based simulator, the HEXaFLITE flying theatre and Simtec Systems’ Dark Rides. They can also discover the new HEXaFLITE mini.

The company recently announced that it is bringing two new attractions to China. Its FUNRIDE 21 will be a key attraction at OCT Happy Valley’s new Super Wings themed land, in Chongqing, China. The company is providing three FUNRIDE open cabin simulators with 21 seats each, placed in front of a 30-metre-wide screen. It is also supplying the AV system for the theatre.

Meanwhile, the company has also signed a sales contract for its new HEXaFLITE 2.0 flying theatre. This will be installed for a client in the greater Macau area in 2022. It will include 48 seats and special effects.

BoldMove – booth #2-1584

BoldMove, the new vendor-independent service for the entertainment market, will be showing its extensive portfolio at IAAPA Expo Europe 2021, including the Smash & Reload dark ride family, as well as its transmedia experiences, Houba City, Houba World and AR Hybrid Quest.

The concept of Smash & Reload is based on two decades of interactive and awarded dark ride experience. It guarantees fun for the whole family, from simple aim and shoot fun to advanced gameplay that challenges players to compete with each other as they build their score. The interactive experience has a colourful and engaging storyline and provides high throughput with a small footprint.

BoldMove has partnered with Triotech for Smash & Reload’s show control and ride system, and Polymorph for media production and gameplay. On its booth, the company will demonstrate the ride dynamics with a miniature 3D version. It will also be showcasing the latest design of its TooMush IP.

The company will also be talking about Houba City, a new scalable LBE solution that addresses market needs in the wake of the pandemic. This Urban Experience Centre (UEC) is designed to attract visitors, increasing both footfall and retention. Meanwhile, its mixed reality AR Hybrid Quest is defined as a “phygital” attraction. It has a mix of activities that take place in ‘Physical’ spaces (park, shopping mall or any other venue) and ‘Digital’ actions on the internet, social networks or websites.

Mobaro – booth #1-1516

Mobaro, a provider of online maintenance and safety solutions, will be revealing the new innovations that it has been working on over the past two years, including new features and enhancements.

For instance, the team will be talking about RideOps, a new tool that enables theme park operators and management to access and transmit live information from ride activity. It lets users capture important operational metrics from the ride in order to operate to a safe, efficient and cost-effective standard.  

In addition, The Location Map is an interactive map showing locations, for example, rides, restaurants, restrooms and more. Each pin will reflect the current status. It can be clicked to get a dialogue, just like the ones from the general Mobaro location overview.

With the introduction of Advanced Compliance Management (ACM), the company has also added a new dimension to the Mobaro platform. Several control mechanisms have been developed. This enables users to reach new levels of accuracy and reliability in safety, maintenance and operations processes.

Plus, with the addition of the Mobaro public API, users can develop integrations for other software environments, bringing new value cross-connected value to the business.

Mobaro also recently partnered with Pacific Park, helping it to digitise its safety, maintenance and operations procedures.

Connect&GO – booth #2-619

Connect&GO, a leader in guest experience engineering and wearable RFID technology for events and attractions, will also be present at IAAPA Expo Europe 2021.

Recently, the company acquired two companies specialized in photo and video, Nomad Logic and 3DB Solution. As a result, it is now launching Kapture. This solution enables amusement park operators to easily create memorable experiences, increase customer engagement and loyalty, and boost revenue.

Valo Motion – booth #1-1230

Valo Motion, a pioneer in combining interactive technology with physical activities, will be showcasing its newest product, ValoJump air. This mixed reality attraction is full of fun games that are played while jumping on an air track instead of a trampoline.

To fit a variety of different customer types and locations, ValoJump air comes with two different models. These are ValoJump Model 86 (86” screen) and ValoJump Model 55 (55” screen). In addition, ValoJump air can be a single or double setup. With the double setup, the two different players can jump on two separate air tracks while appearing together in the same game world. This makes ValoJump air safe and hygienic.

Finally, ValoJump air requires a ceiling height of only 3m (9ft 10 in). In addition to making the installation easier, ValoJump air offers an easy, inexpensive retrofit opportunity.

ValoJump air provides an immersive digital experience in a compact space. It is suitable for all ages, sizes, fitness and skill level. After each game, the player is invited to share their “Selfie Video” with the world. For additional visibility, the operator can add their logo to these videos.

Vekoma Rides – booth # 2-961

Vekoma Rides, the Dutch roller coaster specialist, will be showcasing some of its recent successful projects on its booth. For instance, earlier this year, it celebrated the opening of a custom-designed Family Boomerang Spirit and Super Shockwave Double Launch Coaster at Energylandia in Poland, as well as an indoor Family Coaster at Doha Quest in Qatar and a Custom Suspended Family Coaster, ‘Phoenix’, at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park in the USA.

Meanwhile, China has seen the opening of a Top Gun Launch Coaster at two different Fantawild parks; a 3 Family Boomerang Rebound; and a Hyper Space Warp Looping Coaster.

Vekoma IAAPA Expo Europe

At Fanta Park Glorious Orient Ganzhou and Ningbo visitors can enjoy a Vekoma Rides’ next-gen Launch Coaster, Top Gun. This is themed around an aircraft carrier take-off. It has four fighter jet trains with a maximum of eight passengers per train. After the power launch, which sends rides to 97 km/h in a mere 3 seconds, riders will experience several duelling train effects, five airtime moments and four inversions.

Energylandia’s new themed area “Aqualantis” is home to a new Vekoma Super Shockwave

Double Launch Coaster, ‘Abyssus’, which is 38.5m high, reaches a top speed of 100km per hour and has a total length of 1316m. It has a variable layout with high pacing and numerous inversions, airtime hills and forceful turns and twists.

Finally, next year will also see the arrival of Fønix at Fårup Sommerland, a Wild Cat Looping Coaster that will be 40 meters high and will reach speeds of up to 95 kilometres an hour, This also features the world’s first “stall loop” element, as well as more airtime than any other amusement park ride in Scandinavia.

Red Raion – booth #1-212

Red Raion, the CGI studio specialized in media-based attractions, will be attending IAAPA Expo Europe 2021, where the team will be showcasing its new CGI title available for licensing, an underwater movie called Moby Dick – Friends to the rescue!

This takes inspiration from Herman Melville’s Moby Dick and will be available in several formats, including 5D, VR and Dome. Children and families will enjoy an underwater adventure that follows the adventures of Moby Dick’s daughter, Willa, and her pursuit by Captain Ahab.

DOF Robotics – booth #2-956

DOF Robotics, a producer of dynamic simulation platforms, will also be present at the show, where it will be talking about its range of innovative products. For example, the award-winning Hurricane 360 VR and the immersive Flying Theatre.

DOF Robotics adjusted to the global pandemic quickly. It created face shields for free during the initial outbreak of COVID-19, for healthcare workers in Istanbul. In addition, it began producing autonomous disinfection robots and smart disinfection cabins.

Recently, the company announced a new partnership with AMC Global. AMC Global will be DOF Robotics’ distributor for South Africa, helping it to increase its presence in the country.

P&P Projects, a one-stop shop for theme parks, museums, family entertainment centres and visitor attractions, has been evolving its design-build service on all fronts in recent years. The company has partnered with numerous clients in award-winning projects.

Its scale of operations has grown exponentially, as it has recently completed world-class projects for a major theme park in Beijing, China. This year, P&P Projects is working on more exciting and innovative projects. These have involved bringing to life world-renowned IPs in France and Spain and playing a key role in the development of Belgium’s Captain Jack, the world’s first Aviation Theme Park.

Polin Fully 6 WhiteWater World IAAPA Expo Europe 2021

Last year, Polin announced the opening of a new ride, Fully 6, at the newly refurbished WhiteWater World, the sister park to Dreamworld on Australia’s Gold Coast. The design is inspired by the big waves and surf scene of the region. It is the first new waterpark attraction in the area to be built in five years.

The company also presented new water park image recognition technology, AIPIX, last year. This makes it simple for attractions to capture action-packed experiences as they happen.

KCC Entertainment Design – booth #2-1561

KCC Entertainment Design, a leading creator of themed environments, is celebrating the return of the trade show and is looking forward to meeting industry professionals in person again.

In 2020, the company continued designing and realizing entertainment destinations worldwide. For example, the Chocolate Kingdom Theme Park in Yingde near Guangzhou, China, which opened in January 2020. The park is a joint development by China Aoyuan Group Limited and China Cultural Tourism group.

ProSlide Technology Inc., an industry leader in water ride manufacturing and design, will be present at IAAPA Expo Europe 2021 to showcase its latest water ride innovations, such as the MammothBLAST Water Coaster.

Falcon’s Creative Group

Falcon’s Creative Group, the entertainment design firm, will be attending and the team is looking forward to networking with friends old and new and seeing the latest highlights in the industry.

Earlier this year, the company announced the launch of Falcon’s Beyond Global, a fully integrated development enterprise for IP-driven parks, resorts, media and merchandise. This new venture brings the proprietary Katmandu and partner IPs to global markets.

It also recently designed and implemented a turnkey augmented reality (AR) experience for Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida.

Yonoton – booth #1-250

Yonoton, an expert in digital ordering and payment services for hospitality and entertainment, is exhibiting at IAAPA Expo Europe 2021. The company will be showcasing its One SaaS platform for a branded app, pos, self-service kiosks, web shop, NFC-payments and virtual queueing.

Smeetz, a provider of smart all-in-one ticketing software for leisure and cultural attractions, will also be present at IAAPA Expo Europe 2021. On 29 September at 11 am, Louis Alfieri, Principal  / Chief Creative Officer at Raven Sun Creative will join James Wallman, founder of the World Experience Organization and Arnold Van De Water, founder of Factorr and Managing Director of the Vincent Van Gogh Experience, for a session entitled: Putting the Guest in Charge: Co-Creating the Future with the Guest as Your Collaborator.

In this discussion, they will look at ways in which experiential destinations can empower their visitors as collaborators and together create value, as well as exploring the importance of discovering ways to listen to and draw insights from guests to gain a deeper understanding of their needs.

The session is geared towards owners and industry specialists of every level. It will provide insight on how to strengthen the relationship with guests, create impact with actionable guest insights, tell more meaningful stories and leverage different narratives in guest agency.

Health and safety

Attendees at IAAPA Expo Europe 2021 must be fully vaccinated, have a negative COVID-19 test or have proof that they have recovered from COVID-19. Health and safety is a priority at the event. IAAPA has released a set of guidelines, here, which includes social distancing, mask-wearing, hand-washing and more.
