Meet the Luminous team

Mike Badley, Luminous Director, says “We are really excited about the opportunities in the Middle East. Our background is in making the extra-ordinary happen in front of audiences eyes and we are hoping we can apply our experience and technology to some exciting projects in the region”

Blooloop recently spoke to Badley, as well as co-founder Edwin Samkin, to find out more about the company and how its unique offering has many applications in the global attractions industry. Samkin has been in the special effects business since 1996 and has worked on a range of projects from popular TV shows to West End theatre and ceremonies. He also worked on London 2012, setting up the opening ceremony special effects, as well as contributing to the Sochi Winter Olympics and the Rio Olympics.

Meanwhile, Badley’s background is in movie special effects, with work on blockbuster titles such as Batman, Casino Royale, The Dark Knight, Quantum of Solace and Inception on his resume. He has also worked on touring productions for artists such as Adele, Muse and Take That.

The pair founded Luminous in 2017 and their first project was an install for the Harry Potter and The Cursed Child theatre show in New York. During this project, the company’s flame system was approved by the Fire Department of New York.

Attendees of the Saudi Entertainment and Amusement Expo in September can now book a meeting with Samkin and Badley by clicking here. The team will be at the Experience UK stand (1F20) to discuss the latest spectacular offerings from the world of physical special effects.
