Event will explore how aquariums engage audiences with key global issues

IAC-2022

The 11th International Aquarium Congress (IAC) will take place from 30 October to 4 November 2022 at NausicaĆ” in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France. Organisers have now announced the additional subthemes for this year’s event, alongside the core theme of “Aquariums: engaged and active for the Blue Planet”.

IAC provides an opportunity for aquarium professionals to meet, share best practice, and discuss their common goals.

Aquariums reach several million visitors every year and are ideally placed to report on and encourage understanding of some of the key challenges that the natural world is facing. These scientific centres have a core commitment to safeguarding aquatic diversity. They also play an important role in mobilising the public on important issues relating to the oceans and the future of the planet.

A range of themes will be explored

IAC 2022’s key theme will explore how aquariums engage at the scientific, societal and political levels by involving audiences in their day-to-day activities, research actions and conservation programmes.

As well as the overarching theme, IAC 2022 will also explore a series of eight secondary themes:

  • Technological developments
  • Reproduction
  • Animal care
  • Conservation
  • Scenographic design and production of cultural and scientific content
  • Education, raising awareness, mobilisation
  • The role of aquariums in society
  • Adapting to a global pandemic situation

Registration is open now, allowing attendees to sign up for the virtual event and also to express their interest in a face-to-face event. A decision will be made in June 2022 on whether to run an in-person element.
