Event appointed for New Science Centre Singapore masterplan

News

The educational facility will engage and inspire visitors with STEM learning

Event, the experience design agency, has announced it has been selected to deliver the visitor experience masterplan for New Science Centre Singapore.

Science Centre Singapore has been at the forefront of the global movement for informal science education for almost half a century, acting as a leading centre in the Asia-Pacific region since 1977. The organisation has built a reputation for being continuously pioneering and innovative – a reputation it will take with it to its new development.

The New Science Centre Singapore will relocate to a new site in Singapore’s redesigned Jurong Lake Gardens district. The new location will enable the Centre to connect with the country’s civic and tourism infrastructure in an entirely new way, creating opportunities to engage with vast new audiences.

Event’s director of strategy, Jim Broughton, says: “We are delighted to be working with such an inspiring organisation at the biggest turning point in its history. We have always loved the daring and wit with which Science Centre Singapore has helped us humans better understand ourselves and our world, and we are looking forward to joining them on this journey.

“Together with our ongoing work on the new Eden Qingdao in China and our renewal of the Hong Kong Museum of History, we feel this commission shows our ability at Event to help Asia’s most ambitious organisations deliver projects that develop knowledge, grow skills and that reveal new perspectives”

Creating opportunities

The New Science Centre will become a visionary destination, weaving creative storytelling and innovative technologies together to initiate enriching and immersive learning experiences.

The development will comprise a range of educational facilities and laboratories, alongside outdoor activity spaces thoughtfully integrated with the adjacent Jurong Lake Gardens urban district. The centre will have a core focus on other STEM topics including technology, engineering and mathematics.

Ong Ye Kung, Singapore’s former minister for education said: “The New Science Centre promises to bring even more excitement. As we wind down the focus on examinations in schools, we are ramping up inquiry-based and applied learning – [it] will be the biggest applied learning classroom for all our students.”

Science Centre Singapore chief executive Lim Tit Meng, commented: “We look forward to reimagining how a trip to the New Science Centre will continue to inspire a lifelong appreciation of the importance and impact of STEM, where science can befriend and transform the minds of millions.”

Earlier this year, Event celebrated the reopening of Glasgow’s Burrell Collection following an extensive refurbishment.
