Simworx, the dynamic media attractions specialist, has launched its new Flying Theatre solution, the Pegasus Flying Theatre, at IAAPA Expo 2022 in Orlando.
The dynamic and scalable ride, which compliments its existing flying attractions portfolio, is suitable for venues of various capacities and sizes, with Simworx intending for Pegasus to be a solution to fit all without compromising on experience.
The ride system, which was created to provide a new and thrilling method for guests to become engaged in the on-screen action, seats them astride the front restraint with their legs on either side and their hands on the front handlebars. The flexibility for the basic shaped seat to be themed to suit any storyline has been a key part of the design. allowing guests to ‘ride’ a variety of items such as a jet bike, a space rocket, or even a flying horse.
Illusion of flight
Riders board from differing levels, where they are seated, and excitement builds before the main performance begins. Unsure of what to anticipate, the shutter doors in front of their eyes open to show an immersive, broad dome screen. With the use of appropriate in-theatre lighting and sound effects, this transition would be flawlessly executed to retain the illusion.
“By creating a flying theatre experience that can be customised to a park’s specific building size requirement, we create a more accessible attraction that gives parks with more limited footprints and budgets a greater opportunity to offer guests a flying experience, says each specific customer,” says Simworx CEO Terry Monkton.
“While its flexibility means that we can also offer any number of seats – 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 60, etc, – to accommodate the seating requirements for each specific customer.”
Guests enjoy dynamic seat movement throughout the ride experience, which simulates the all-important sensation of flying, while a variety of in-theatre effects such as water spray, wind, smoke, and special effects lighting give operators a unique trip that is sure to delight visitors. The chairs also have a blinking, interactive button that may be incorporated into the media to give riders the impression that they have input into the story.
High throughput efficiency
The modular and customisable device overcomes the recurring challenge of venues with height limits, giving a true flying experience at every scale. The Pegasus can be distributed across one, two, three, or even more levels of varying widths to fit snugly into pre-existing structures utilising a unique AV solution created precisely to match a customer’s chosen layout and footprint. This ensures that they can achieve the best potential throughput while efficiently utilising all of their available space.
Pegasus is not only capable of providing a standard “Fly Over Experience,” but it is also capable of delivering story-driven experiences. With these encounters becoming increasingly story-driven, the Pegasus intends to provide greater freedom in theming the experience, from the vehicle’s aesthetic down to the loading area, enriching the storytelling journey and producing a more memorable experience.
Simworx lead creative Matt Clarkson adds: “Flying theatres have evolved beyond aerial tours of cities or flying through the clouds to story-driven experiences. Guests want to be transported to impossible places.”
Simworx also displayed its AGV Dark Ride at IAAPA Expo Europe, with a vehicle in full view of attendees on the show floor.
