Chessington apologises for excessive screaming before opening new Jumanji coaster

Chessington has installed boxes containing ear defenders in locations across Surrey.

Ahead of the launch of its new Jumanji-themed Mandrill Mayhem coaster, Chessington World of Adventures is apologising to local residents for the impending screaming.

Mandrill Mayhem is part of Chessington’s new ‘World of Jumanji’ land, which opens on 15 May. The world’s first Jumanji-themed land is based on Sony Pictures’ $2 billion film franchise.

As well as apologising to the community, Chessington has installed boxes containing ear defenders for Surrey residents in locations across the county.

‘In case of excessive screaming, break glass’

“With inversions (a first at Chessington), turns, accelerations and reverses – and spiral after spiral – the new Mandrill Mayhem roller coaster means scream levels are expected to reach new heights as many children (and grown-ups) experience being flipped upside down at 42 mph for the first time,” said Chessington.

“We wanted to apologise in advance, for the noise people having the thrill of their lives may cause and should the screams become too much, offer up emergency ear defenders for use.”

Mandrill Mayhem – a winged, launched, shuttle coaster with an inversion – wraps around a huge ‘Jaguar Shrine’ structure.

“Families should prepare to be turned upside down… literally, as the first new roller coaster in nearly 20 years at the resort has a twist, turn and flip that will have you holding on to your seat,” said Scott O’Neil, CEO of Merlin Entertainments, in January.

World of Jumanji also includes two new rides called Mamba Strike and Ostrich Stampede, as well as a maze of pathways based on the iconic board game, and themed merchandise and F&B.

Six Jumanji-themed rooms are already available at the Chessington Safari Hotel. World of Jumanji is the single largest investment in Chessington‘s history.

Elsewhere, Italy’s Gardaland features a new Jumanji-themed maze attraction and a family-friendly dark ride called Jumanji – The Adventure.
