Medici XD, the Nashville-based experience development company, has announced that Gregg Katano has joined the leadership team at Medici Media and Medici Interactive, taking on the role of SVP of strategic partnerships and business development. Katano is an entertainment, media and tech executive who helped lead HOLOGATE to become the world’s most successful company for location-based virtual reality entertainment.

In his new position, he joins award-winning themed entertainment veterans and Medici Media co-founders Daren Ulmer and Chuck Fawcett.

Throughout his career, Katano has been recognised as a pioneer. He has helped to create a number of significant milestones in entertainment innovation and experiences and his track record includes projects in stereoscopic 3D (3D X-Games: The Movie, Foo Fighters: Back and Forth 3D, Academy Awards: Red Carpet 3D), virtual reality (Google Cardboard), location-based entertainment (Hologate) and the Metaverse (MetaCities).

Time to join forces

“I have been friends with Daren Ulmer for well over a decade,” says Katano. “Every time Daren and I would get together, we would spend countless hours creatively riffing on all the latest technology and innovation that could create the world’s next mind-blowing location-based experience!

“After my recent years of navigating the location-based entertainment space, being connected to the most cutting-edge technology and technologists and continually seeking to push innovation, and not to mention, being a huge theme park nerd and fan of so many of Daren’s beloved theme park creations, we both knew it was time to join forces!”

Katano is co-vice chair of the Producers Guild of America’s ‘New Media Council’ and a national active member of the Emerging Media Programming Peer Group of the Television Academy. He often speaks at industry events, such as IAAPA Expo, Amusement Expo, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Augmented World Expo (AWE), SXSW, National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), Comic Con, and more.

Ulmer says: “We are so excited to have Gregg join the Medici Media team! Not only does he bring his many years of entertainment and media experience as a creative producer, strategist, and entrepreneur, but he brings his kind spirit, infectious energy, and solid reputation as a people connector and creative collaborator that is known throughout the entertainment industry.”

For more information or to set up a meeting with Medici Media and Medici Interactive, contact Katano by email.

Last year, Medici XD joined forces with Sotto Studios to announce the launch of Thrillboard, a unique combination of ride and LED billboard.
