Visitors will see otherworldly landscapes, art installations and surreal environments

Meow Wolf has unveiled its new immersive art experience, The Real Unreal, in Grapevine, Texas ahead of the launch on 14 July.

Created by 38 Texas-based artists alongside the Meow Wolf team, the art collective’s fourth permanent exhibition is located at the Grapevine Mills shopping mall in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

As pictured, the new venue is home to a series of dreamscapes, as well as otherworldly landscapes, art installations, surreal environments, and Meow Wolf’s famous portals.

“We’re thrilled to reveal these first looks of our newest exhibition. It’s been in the works for four years and is an awe-inspiring self-guided experience for visitors to get lost in,” said Dale Sheehan, Meow Wolf’s senior vice president and executive creative director.

The Real Unreal’s narrative journey takes a leap through the spaces between universes, and is the first major step in connecting the Meow Wolf story universe.”

Guests will be immersed in a new storyline conceived by sci-fi and fantasy author LaShawn Wanak as they explore more than 30 rooms by 150 artists and fabricators.

The Real Unreal

Starting in a house, the story follows a mother and son. Some spaces may feel similar to those in Meow Wolf’s original immersive exhibition in Santa Fe, the House of Eternal Return.

“The house and the idea of ‘eternal return’ are powerful motifs that formed the catalyst for Meow Wolf’s transformation from a scrappy art collective into the growing company we are today,” said Meow Wolf co-founder, Emily Montoya.

The House of Eternal Return, Meow Wolf’s first experience in Santa Fe, New Mexico, opened in 2016. It was followed in 2021 by Omega Mart at Area15 in Las Vegas, Nevada and Convergence Station in Denver, Colorado.
