Meow Wolf has announced the opening date and name of its upcoming immersive art experience in Grapevine, Texas.
Meow Wolf‘s fourth permanent exhibition is called ‘The Real Unreal’ and opens on 14 July at the Grapevine Mills shopping mall in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.
Per a press release, visitors will enjoy a technicolour wonderland that merges storytelling, technology and immersive art. The new location also includes a cafe, shop and venue for live events.
“When participants step into The Real Unreal, they start a cosmic odyssey where surprises await around every corner, and each discovery sparks its own story,” said Meow Wolf’s senior vice president and executive creative director, Dale Sheehan.
He added: “Every element in the exhibition weaves together a tapestry of characters, stories, and worlds. The creative energy of The Real Unreal extends beyond the physical, and leads to a potential unlimited host of cosmic side-effects.”
The new attraction encourages visitors to explore different dimensions of perspective and creativity in more than 30 rooms created by 150 artists and fabricators, including 38 from Texas.
“A missing boy, a chosen family, and Hapulusgarrulus Lophoaquaflori all lie at the center of The Real Unreal’s story, conceived by author LaShawn Wanak,” said Meow Wolf.
“It all begins with a blended family who has unknowingly unlocked portals to a different existence. As participants investigate these portals to the unknown, they will explore rooms that are both unfamiliar yet accessible through unforgettable psychedelic art.”
Storytelling, technology and immersive art
Meow Wolf CEO Jose Tolosa said the new exhibition “has been in the works for years and takes a bold step forward in our evolution of art and storytelling”.
Tolosa added: “As we pursue sustainable and thoughtful expansion, we are beyond excited to bring our unique brand of wonder unveiling this next chapter of the Meow Wolf universe and look forward to having new participants experience Meow Wolf.”
Meow Wolf is also opening its fifth permanent exhibition in the Fifth Ward of Houston in 2024. Its third venue, Convergence Station, debuted in Denver in 2021. This came after the House of Eternal Return in Santa Fe and Omega Mart at AREA15 in Las Vegas.
