Efteling, the fairytale theme park in the Netherlands, has opened a spooky F&B location in the themed area surrounding its upcoming Danse Macabre attraction.
The facility, called In den Swarte Kat (In the Black Cat), is a new concept for Efteling where guests can buy products such as “blood juice” via self-service counters, the park said in a press release.
The haunted F&B outlet was once used as a grocery shop by the fictional Charlatan family, the theme park added. “In den Swarte Kat appears to be burnt down, partially collapsed, and is filled with creepy elements,” it said.
In den Swarte Kat and the Danse Macabre attraction are part of Efteling’s new 17,000-square-metre Huyverwoud Forest area.
Efteling closed its iconic Spookslot haunted house in September 2022 to make room for Danse Macabre, which will feature a unique ride system.
Intamin, a creator of record-breaking amusement rides, has worked alongside Efteling to create the new ride system.
Danse Macabre is also an accessible attraction. “We want Efteling to be a place for everyone, where everyone feels welcome,” said Koen Sanders, Efteling’s director of products and marketing.

“That’s why we worked with experience experts and were advised by different partners with expertise on a particular disability.”
In more news, Efteling welcomed 5.43 million visitors in 2022, the highest number of guests in the park’s 70-year history. “2022 proved once again that Efteling matters,” said Fons Jurgens, the park’s CEO.
Efteling is also installing an additional 12,000 solar panels in an attempt to become climate neutral by 2030 and climate positive by 2032.
