SeaWorld San Antonio has announced the opening date for Catapult Falls, billed as the world’s first launched flume coaster.
Catapult Falls will debut at the park in Texas on 2 March. SeaWorld San Antonio says the ride is the world’s steepest flume coaster, and also the only flume ride in North America with a vertical lift. Riders will speed down a 53-degree slope at more than 37 mph.
The new attraction was unveiled in September 2023, alongside the new Penguin Trek coaster at SeaWorld Orlando and a jellyfish experience at SeaWorld San Diego.
Marc Swanson, CEO of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, said: “2024 looks to be another fun year with exciting new rides in our parks and our first jellyfish exhibit. We know our fans will delight in the all-new lineup of marine life-inspired experiences that gives everyone even more new ways to really enjoy our parks. And when they do, they can feel good knowing that a portion of proceeds goes toward our rescue and conservation work.”
Earlier this month, SeaWorld Orlando completed the ride track for Penguin Trek – its first family launch coaster. This is made by Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) and features an indoor and outdoor track, which ends in the park’s penguin habitat.

In more news, SeaWorld Entertainment has changed its corporate name to United Parks & Resorts in order to unite its portfolio of seven brands across 13 theme parks in the US and Abu Dhabi.
“Each of our iconic parks – including the four SeaWorld parks in Orlando, San Antonio, San Diego and Abu Dhabi – will continue to operate under the same names our guests know and love,” said Swanson.
