SPIKE drive system

The standout feature of the new roller coaster is its innovative SPIKE drive system, a next-generation version of the traditional gear drive. Now, guests in Asia can take control of their own speed for the first time.

Each of the four motorised vehicles can be controlled individually and can reach speeds of 50mph (80 km/h). Riders can speed up and slow down at any point on the track, without being limited to straight sections or requiring additional rail components. The advanced drive technology ensures precise control and optimum safety.

The ride at HI SPACE has been designed as the park’s centrepiece and reaches 951 feet (290 metres) in length and 36 feet (11 metres) in height, with a capacity of 500 riders per hour. The vehicles travel throughout the entire indoor space, snaking between the other attractions and providing views across the park. At the turning point, the track tightly encircles a drop tower in a thrilling moment of interaction.

The HI SPACE indoor amusement park, which extends to 28,000 square metres and boasts 29 state-of-the-art attractions, is part of the Hi Chongqing shopping mall complex.

With 40,000 residential units in development and a total footprint of 1.5 million square metres, the complex is set to be a new landmark in one of the most rapidly growing districts in Chongqing.

Recently, Maurer Rides marked the success of its SPIKE Racing concept, which has quickly progressed from an innovative prototype to a proven attraction that is adaptable for diverse market conditions, visitor demographics, and operational requirements.
