Shanghai Polar Ocean World – a 300,000 square meter polar-themed ocean park in the Lingang area of Shanghai is set to open in July 2018.
The Shanghai development will also include the world’s largest planetarium, an indoor ski resort, three theatres, two new universities and multiple college campus, alongside 15 other entertainment facilities, reports the Shanghai Daily. Modern office buildings, hotels, shopping malls and convention centers are already under construction.
The theme park itself will have four marine animal interactive programs displaying a wide range of Arctic and Antarctic wildlife.
It is anticipated that the development will attract 450,000 residents and 10 million tourists per year by 2020. Low housing prices, accommodation subsidies, and reduced rent payments are being offered to attract new residents.
There are plans for an 18.9 kilometer traffic system, which will include electric buses, and vehicle and bicycle sharing programs, to create a green and efficient public transport system.
