Wavegarden creates revolutionary wave-generating technology

Wavegarden is an engineering company that designs, manufactures, installs and operates world-class wave-generating systems and surfing lagoons.

Based in northern Spain, Wavegarden has spent over a decade researching and designing artificial waves. Our mission is to develop the best wave creation systems possible, and share the experience of surfing a perfect wave with everyone.

We focus on maximising the user experiences whilst minimising energy consumption to create the simplest and most efficient technologies possible.

Wavegarden has a full-size test facility that is fully dedicated to R&D. This allows our engineers to test technology and products before they come onto the market, ensuring successful commercial deployment.

Wavegarden Cove

Our patented Wavegarden Cove technology creates up to 1,000 perfect waves every hour, similar to the ocean. This allows everyone the chance to enjoy the benefits of a surf beach, even if they live far away from the sea.

The Wavegarden Cove technology has the largest user capacity, maximum variety and quantity of waves, and the lowest energy and water consumption on the market.

The waves are created in four different zones, with differing heights, shapes and speeds. This means you can create an incredible surfing experience for all customers, from pros to beginners. A standard Wavegarden Cove installation features two Reef Zones (expert and intermediate surfing) and two Bays (beginner surfing). Energy is continuously injected into waves as they advance through the Reefs, meaning they maintain a constant height and power for as long as possible.

Water Treatment

Wavegarden engineers have developed the only water treatment system in the world that is designed, built and tested specifically for artificial wave lagoons for surfing.

This system reduces the Capex and Opex of the installation whilst maintaining the quality of waves and safety of the lagoon.

Despite the low recirculation flows, water quality in the lagoon is guaranteed. Plus, a lower chlorine value is required than those in public swimming pools.

It has been developed to meet the legislative criteria of Brazil, Spain, the UK, Australia, Germany, the US and South Korea.

Sustainability

Wavegarden aims to achieve a ‘Net Positive Impact’ by delivering social and economic benefits to the communities surrounding our surf facilities in a sustainable and responsible manner. Our facilities are designed to blend into the natural surroundings, and require very little civil engineering work.

Our wave generating machinery is designed to reuse and recuperate part of the energy created in the wave generation process.

Wavegarden follow five fundamental principles of sustainable practices:

  • Optimise site potential
  • Minimise energy use
  • Conserve water
  • Optimise material use
  • Optimise operational and maintenance practices
