ECA2, a leading creator of high-quality multimedia shows, is celebrating a milestone for Under the Midnight Rainbow, the landmark show created for Expo 2025 Osaka.
Since its debut on 13 April at the Water Plaza, this nightly multimedia spectacle has already welcomed over one million visitors. Night after night, audiences have been enthralled by its fusion of artistry and technology, making it one of the signature experiences of the Expo.
Every evening at twilight, Under the Midnight Rainbow brings audiences together for an emotional climax, a moment of unity and storytelling achieved through light and laser displays, a compelling musical score, fire, 300 water fountains, and a 20-meter-high arch with a Cascade Screen.
Cutting-edge tech & an engaging story
Blending advanced multimedia technology with a poetic story, the show is inspired by the Expo’s theme, Designing Future Society for Our Lives. It presents an imaginative and uplifting vision of connection across cultures and generations.
The show is the result of a collaboration with world-class artistic talents. Renowned Japanese artist Naoki Tanaka conceived the original idea, while globally acclaimed musician Yoko Kanno composed the score. ECA2 led the design and production, drawing on decades of experience in creating emotional experiences through technology and storytelling. This ambitious production is enabled by the support of sponsors Daikin Global and Suntory Global.
Under the Midnight Rainbow is a unique moment when guests from all over the world unite. It celebrates shared emotions, collective hope, and the universal language of wonder.

ECA2 considers it a great honour to be entrusted with this central gathering at the Expo. This project also signifies an important return for ECA2. Japan has been pivotal in shaping the company’s creative journey, starting with the Kirara Starlight Fantasy show for Yamaguchi Expo in 2001, and then with the popular long-standing nighttime show BraviSEAmo! at Tokyo DisneySea from 2004 to 2010.
Now, more than twenty years later, ECA2 is back in Japan, bringing a new level of innovation and emotional storytelling, refined through years of creating spectacular shows worldwide.
ECA2 says that returning to Japan is highly significant: collaborating on such a prestigious international event is a professional honour and a creative milestone. It signifies more than just a geographical return; it reaffirms ECA2’s commitment to creating world-class spectacles that showcase technical excellence and promote cultural exchange.
“Creating Under the Midnight Rainbow for Expo 2025 is more than a show; it is a celebration of connection, imagination, and emotion,” adds the firm. “Being trusted to design such a unifying moment is something we hold with great pride.”
In January 2025, ECA2’s multi-layered, multimedia experience, Kiss of the Sea, in Phu Quoc, won first place at the blooloop Innovation Awards in the Spectacular category.
