Barco, the global technology company, along with the team behind 7thSense Design, the multi-award-winning media solutions specialist, has reached an agreement in principle to transfer the Medialon brand and ShowControl activities to Medialon Ltd.

Barco and 7thSense Design are pleased to announce an agreement in principle regarding the intended sale of the Medialon brand and ShowControl Activities.

The team behind 7thSense Design has been leading the acquisition and will now form a new company, Medialon Ltd. This will become a part of the 7thSense Design family and will encompass the Medialon brand and ShowControl Activities.

Lighting, audio, video and special effects solutions

The sale is expected to be finalised by the 1st of July 2019. Medialon Ltd. will have a head office in Orlando, Florida, as well as having satellite offices elsewhere in the US, the UK and Canada. It will provide solutions for the control, supervision and monitoring of lighting, audio, video and special effects for a range of clients in the attractions sector including museums and theme parks.

The current Product Manager for Medialon within Barco, Eric Cantrell, will head up the new Medialon Ltd. business as VP of Business Operations. He will be based at the Orlando office. Speaking about the announcement, he says, “The decision by Barco to transfer the Medialon show control activity is driven by Barco’s continuous effort to focus on core activities, comprising of display and image processing technology; in conjunction with strengthened partnerships across the value chain in the Entertainment market. This transfer will allow Medialon greater agility to further enhance its product offering and expand its scale – we are excited to bring a highly focussed range of solutions and services to attractions and theme parks as part of the 7thSense Design family.”

The Medialon team will specialise in the niche markets of themed entertainment and attractions. The newly formed company will be ideally positioned to integrate and scale the show control operation. It will also be able to sustain the install base and provide continuity to its customers. The transfer of the Medialon brand and ShowControl activities does not include the Overture product suite. This will continue to be owned by Barco.

Matt Barton, CEO of Medialon Ltd. and 7thSense Design, says, “7thSense Design’s products and technologies are often integrated into theme park and attraction installations alongside Medialon show control products. Medialon Ltd.’s acquisition of the Medialon show control product and new place in the 7thSense Design family allows the two businesses to offer complementary media serving and show control solutions to themed entertainment and attraction markets.”

Members of the new Medialon leadership team will be attending Infocomm 2019 from the 12th- 14th June in Orlando, Florida.

Barco has recently been touring a host of new products on a roadshow across Europe, stopping at over 50 events.

Last year, 7thSense Design provided projection mapping for The Egg art installation in New York.
