Valo Motion, a pioneer in combining interactive technology with physical activities, has announced the launch of the new Climball Legends game for ValoClimb.
Climball Legends follows the viral hit game, Climball, and raises the original pinball-meets-air-hockey-meets-climbing experience to new heights with fresh gameplay mechanics and innovative motion tracking.
Dr Raine Kajastila, CEO of Valo Motion, says: “Climball Legends represents our dedication to creating immersive and active experiences that motivate people to move and have fun.
“Building on the tremendous success of the original Climball, this sequel retains the addictive thrill while introducing dynamic new elements like freeform hitting mechanics and enhanced motion tracking. We can’t wait for ValoClimb owners and their guests to have fun while climbing and compete to become a legend.”
Building on a successful title
Valo Motion launched the initial Climball game for their ValoClimb platform approximately seven years ago. Videos of Climball’s gameplay went viral on social media, attracting hundreds of millions of views. This massive success established Valo Motion as a leading developer of innovative augmented reality sports games.
After years of technology advancements and feedback from Climball fans, Valo Motion has created Climball Legends, a sequel that pays tribute to the original while improving the overall gameplay experience.
Climball Legends, like its forerunner, blends the thrill of pinball and air hockey with the physical challenge of climbing to elevate interactivity to new heights. Players must outmanoeuvre each other to score a goal with the ball. The ball’s spin and velocity are affected by the force and direction of each hit.
The new release features freeform hitting game mechanisms that precisely measure players’ limb locations and velocities, which allows them to aim and strike the ball precisely. They can also use spin and curving shots to outmanoeuvre other players.
The freeform hitting enhances the game’s dynamic, fast-paced, and entertaining character. It reduces the skill needed for newcomers while increasing the skill ceiling for expert players, appealing to a diverse range of ages and abilities. Climball Legends will launch with three game modes, including “Multiball” where two balls are in play at the same time, and “Low” where the wall height is reduced so that young players may enjoy it more easily.
Dynamic gameplay for ages eight and up
Climball Legends is intended to be enjoyed by players of all ages. The game’s vivid neon sports design is geared towards teenagers and young adults, but it is also suitable for younger children aged eight and up to enjoy.
The optimal way to play is with two players competing against each other. An AI opponent is available for solo players, ensuring that everyone can join in and play without difficulty.
Players will feel like superstar athletes as they score incredible goals and make last-second saves. This vibrant environment encourages friends and families to enjoy victories together and form friendly rivalries.
The game also caters to a variety of player types. Those who prefer ball sports will appreciate the realistic ball movement and engagement. Competitive players will be continually tested against opponents and more advanced AI, while casual gamers who prefer open-ended games will enjoy freely moving the ball.
Zsombor Szabó, the game’s lead developer, explains: “Sports with balls have followed humans through our history, and Climball Legends taps into this natural fascination with them. Watching a ball physically bounce around on the wall is inherently exciting – like hoping the Windows screensaver clock hits the corner of the screen.
“After our previous game Short Circuit, which was more static, I wanted to experiment with dynamic gameplay that prompts a base human instinct to hit the ball and see what happens.”
Group play & high repeatability
Climball Legends has been designed to be an engaging game for locations featuring Valo Motion’s ValoClimb attraction. As an athletic, lively, and visually appealing game, it appeals to a diverse spectrum of players. Experienced climbers can enjoy the entire climbing experience by playing while scaling the wall, extending their reach for well-aimed shots. Players preferring a more informal challenge can engage with the ball by running and jumping on the floor.
The game sessions are designed to be efficient, with each match lasting about 75 seconds. In a tie, an extra 15-second period is introduced, where the ball moves increasingly quickly until a goal is scored with the final ball in play. This guarantees that all games end with a goal. The set length of the initial match period assures consistent throughput for venues, which may accommodate both single and multiplayer experiences.
Climball Legends allows venues to stage exciting events that appeal to casual and younger players while still delivering a difficult challenge for experienced climbers.
The game’s adaptability allows for impromptu competitions among groups of players, resulting in a dynamic atmosphere that entertains both players and onlookers alike. In addition, Climball Legends encourages repeat play and accommodates larger groups.
Last month, Valo Motion announced the launch of Photobomb, the sixth mixed-reality title for ValoArena. The new game can be played by up to six people at once and immerses players in the glamour of a Hollywood movie premiere.
