UK theme park has invested £1.5m in solar infrastructure

Paultons Park in Hampshire, England has revealed that it’s now powering much of its Tornado Springs land using solar energy.

Since March, the family-owned theme park has generated 357 megawatt-hours (MWh) of solar power, contributing 84 percent of the energy needed to operate its largest land, Tornado Springs.

This comes after an investment of £1.5 million into the installation of solar car ports in Paultons Park’s staff car park, and additional solar roof panels on 11 buildings.

The panels have been operational since the beginning of March, and since then, Paultons Park has saved 68 tonnes of CO2.

Lawrence Mancey, marketing and technology director at Paultons Park, said: “We are thrilled that our new solar infrastructure has already proven to be such a success and a hugely worthwhile investment.

“As a third-generation business, we’re committed to making tangible efforts to lower our environmental impact and do our bit to leave our planet in a better place than we found it.”

Sustainability at Paultons Park

Paultons Park’s solar facilities are supported by a battery energy storage system. In addition, the park is installing sensor-activated LED bulbs and using energy-efficient motors and hardware for rides and park vehicles.

“We’re proud to be leading the way in solar energy within the UK theme park industry,” Mancey added.

“We can already generate 35 percent of the park’s entire electricity usage through on-site renewable energy.

“Our solar car port canopies and new rooftop panels mark the first major phase in a larger green technology project.”

Opened in 1983, Paultons Park is home to more than 80 rides and attractions, including the UK’s only Peppa Pig World.

Eventually, Paultons Park aims to generate at least 50 percent of its energy on site.
