The international influence of the eCommerce brand is highlighted using latest technologies

Float4, an award-winning multidisciplinary studio that integrates digital experiences in physical spaces, has created a new experience at eBay’s offices in California.

The installation, found at the firm’s campus in San José, provides an interactive visualisation of transactions happening around the world.

Float4’s objective was to create an engaging product that created deeper connections with employees and guests that visit the branded space, incline with the brand experience.

The firm had previously worked with on another experience at the eBay campus in 2016, with ESI Design. The two firms have previously collaborated on other projects including City Walk Dubai.

World of opportunities

A snapshot of a full day of trading can be envisioned on a virtual globe, which displays transactions using lines to connect sellers to buyers at the time of purchase. As well as being an artistic talking point, visitors can interact with the screen by zooming in and out and rotating the globe.

Users can also apply various data filters to discover interesting statistics including the most prominent sellers or products, allowing visitors to better understand the wider impact of the eBay brand.

The timing of the project meant the firm considered an alternative approach. Float4 says: “In the context of the pandemic, we wanted to develop an alternative to the touch-based experience. The result was a sleek minimalist web application, which allows a single visitor at a time to remotely control the entire eBay Earth experience. While the visitor’s mobile device handles the controls, the data remains only visible on the video wall.”

The following video explores the Float4 and eBay project in more detail:

Float4 will soon be presenting “Building connections: Immersive & Interactive Brand Experiences” at the upcoming Experiential Marketing Summit 2022. The company will be at the EMS Expert Studio on 28 and 29 April (10:35 a.m PST), represented by strategic partnerships manager for digital experiences, Renée Hampton, with marketing coordinator Alexandra Margulescu also in attendance.

Last year, the company worked on a multimedia experience found at the top of One World Trade Center in New York, US.
