The CAC designation includes the resort’s hotels, Legoland theme park, Legoland Water Park and Peppa Pig Theme Park.

Legoland Florida Resort has become the first theme park resort to earn a Certified Autism Center (CAC) designation.

The designation includes the resort’s hotels, as well as the Legoland theme park, Legoland Water Park and Peppa Pig Theme Park. Opened earlier this year, the Peppa Pig Theme Park features accessible ride vehicles and attractions.

The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) awards the CAC certification to organisations that complete staff training and offer amenities and accommodation for visitors with cognitive differences.

“We are passionate about being the resort for families to build awesome vacation memories, and we are thankful to our partners at IBCCES for helping us be more welcoming and more inclusive to more families, including those with sensory needs,” said Kelly Hornick, head of marketing and communications for Legoland Florida Resort.

IBCCES’ training and certification programmes were created for attractions, hotels, zoos and aquariums as some people with autism and sensory sensitivities find it difficult to visit new places due to a lack of staff training and understanding.

As a Certified Autism Center, Legoland Florida Resort provides trained and helpful staff who can assist autistic guests, as well as a sensory guide for every attraction. It also includes low sensory areas and an accessibility guide.

“IBCCES is thrilled to partner with Legoland Florida Resort to help them enhance the guest experience in this unique setting that provides a comprehensive experience for families to stay and play together,” said Myron Pincomb, IBCCES board chairman.

“Their commitment to ongoing training and accessibility enhancements helps ensure there are more options for families to make memories together that we all cherish.”

Elsewhere, the Van Gogh Museum introduced a touchable scale model of the building that includes all floors and walking routes. It is designed to make a visit to the museum easier for everyone, particularly for blind and partially-sighted guests.
