Universal said opportunities for regional and UK businesses will continue to grow, with the project expected to create 28,000 jobs between construction and employment, and generate £50 billion of economic benefit.

Comcast NBCUniversal is investing more than £5bn in the resort, with an additional £1bn over its first 10 years of operation.

The development will be supported by £1.3bn in government funding for local infrastructure and transport improvements.

Late last month, the UK government met with regional leaders to discuss how they can work together to maximise the benefits of the new Universal resort.
