The tech can predict accurate wait times, help improve guest flow, and manage occupancy for indoor areas

SenSource Inc., a creator of people counting hardware and reporting software, details three key ways that people counting solutions can help operators to boost the guest experience in their theme parks.

With more than 400 amusement parks in the US alone there is a lot of competition for visitors, and operators are always looking for ways to get ahead of their rivals by providing a memorable guest experience. One of the best behind-the-scenes ways to do this is to introduce people counting sensors.

This allows operators to quantify and analyze how guests navigate through their park and helps to highlight areas where they can improve operations.

The same sensors can be used to accomplish three important guest experience initiatives – estimating ride wait time, analyzing traffic flow, and monitoring occupancy.

Communicating accurate ride wait times

SenSource’s Vea Analytics can gather data from sensors placed at the start and the end of a ride queue to determine throughput rate and queue length.

This means that the theme park can display accurate estimates of the ride’s wait time, letting guests know how long they will be waiting and setting the right expectation.

Allowing for better traffic flow

People counting sensors located at the exits can also work alongside the parks’ ticketing system, adding information about exit traffic to the ticketing systems’ entrance data. With both sets of data, operators can get real-time insights into park occupancy and see patterns that take place throughout the day.

Furthermore, sensors installed at key points through the venue can show the usage of common areas, highlighting areas where bottlenecks and congestion are happening. Operators can then use this information to make informed decisions on how to alter the park layout, in order to better cope with crowds.

Tracking and capping occupancy

As well as using people counters to get a snapshot of occupancy across the park, operators can also use the technology to focus on specific areas, such as theatres, retail shops, and attractions inside buildings.

COVID-19 has made guests more aware of social distancing, and post-pandemic they are likely to still expect more space around them. SenSource’s occupancy monitoring solutions can help to observe the number of people inside an area, communicate how many people are present, and display information about when the next group is able to enter.
