A public vote has backed David Beckham’s proposed Miami Freedom Park football development.

The stadium complex and retailtainment park which will be home to Beckham’s new professional football team Club Internacional de Futbol Miami (Inter Miami). The team is expected to begin playing in 2020.

In addition to a 25,000 seat stadium, plans include a 23 hectare park, a hotel, retail space and public sports grounds, designed by Miami architects Arquitectonica.

A public vote on 6 November 2018 gave city officials permission to negotiate a no-bid lease deal for Beckham’s soccer stadium for the city.

Although this is by far from the final hurdle, it is a significant boost to the project which has proved to be controversial.

If official permission is granted, Miami Freedom Park and Soccer Village is planned for completion in 2021.
