New ride concept sees spectators taking aim with water pistols, and riders firing back

Maurer Rides, a leading designer and manufacturer of roller coasters and transport solutions, has announced its latest concept, the Spike Waterfight, which sees spectators turned into active participants as they take aim with water cannons from multi-platforms as the coaster passes – but riders will be firing back too.

The coaster has a tightly curved layout which sees riders rising up and up. However, their enjoyment of the view could be scuppered by their fellow amusement park-goers, who will be trying to blast them with water as they pass. Riders also have water cannons built into the vehicles, so they can get revenge. The water tanks refill automatically when the coaster pulls into the station.

Interactive & eye-catching ride

The concept also caters to those less keen on coaster thrills as a water slide can be connected to the platform entrance. Park operators can choose the number of platforms they connect to and which type of water slide to offer: from freefall to family slides.

The roller coaster tower, standing thirty metres tall, is adjustable, allowing for any desired height. Maurer Rides’ Waterfight technology powers the fun, and the concept optimises a densely packed riding experience by releasing the designers from restricting factors like lifts, launches, or block brakes thanks to the award-winning Spike drive.

The formula is simple – “Anytime, anywhere on a train”: curves, bends, loops, figure eights, floor after floor, people shooting skyward, feeling lifting forces and farsightedness, before plunging back down into the labyrinth of twists and turns.

A feature of the Spike ride is that riders are in complete control of their speed at all times. This means family-friendly travel is possible even on exceptional track layouts. When the vehicles meet on the ascent and descent, who will fire water first?

Earlier this year, Maurer Rides presented its new Speed Chaser roller coaster concept at IAAPA Expo Europe 2023. This offers an adaptable ride with a small footprint and promises an exciting ride for families and thrill-seekers alike with the addition of titling seats, boosters, gaming, shooting and light gates.

Maurer Rides will be exhibiting at IAAPA Expo 2023 in Orlando from 14 – 17 November, and the team can be found at booth #5104
