Neom, northwest Saudi Arabia‘s $500 billion tourism development, has announced another Gulf of Aqaba community named Aquellum.
Aquellum is described as an innovative community situated within the mountains. The luxury and experiential space will feature cutting-edge technology and pioneering experiences to provide a futuristic lifestyle for guests and residents.
The community is hidden in a 450-metre-high mountain range. Its futuristic ecosystem is integrated into the natural surroundings. On offer will be hotels, apartments, retail spaces, and leisure and entertainment zones.
To access the site, guests will begin their journey at the world’s first floating marina. There, they will board a vessel to enter Aquellum through a hidden underground canal.
Pioneering entertainment experiences
Once inside, guests will enjoy an “exhilarating, 100-meter-high vertical experience with an impressive courtyard space stretching from the water to the sky”, Neom said in a press release.
“This subterranean digitalized community creates vibrancy and interconnectivity through seamlessly blending hotel accommodation, apartments, retail spaces, leisure and entertainment zones and innovative hubs,” it added.
There will be diverse social spaces, immersive art experiences, events, and shopping and dining. Additionally, a space called ‘The Generator’ will house research labs for “disruptors, innovators, and creative thinkers”.
Neom said Aquellum “stands as a testament to the fusion of cutting-edge design and construction techniques”.
Subterranean digitalised community
Aquellum joins Neom’s other Gulf of Aqaba destinations, including Leyja, Epicon, Siranna, Utamo and Norlana. Additional developments at Neom are a luxury island called Sindalah, a zero-carbon city with “vertically layered” buildings named The Line, the Oxagon floating port city, and the Trojena ski resort.
Saudi officials have described Neom as “the world’s most ambitious project”. They expect to welcome around one million visitors by 2025 and five million by 2030.
In December, Neom launched a new sustainable food company called Topian.
