SEGD (the Society for Experiential Graphic Design), a multidisciplinary global community of professionals, has shared details of its London Chapter’s Spring Symposium, which is taking place in Dublin on 3 and 4 April.
This two-day event, Designing Dublin: A Two-Day Exploration of Architecture & Innovation, will include a walking tour of the city’s architecture with Arron Henderson of Dublin Decoded, accompanied by a programme of insightful talks. Speakers include Charles Duggan, heritage officer for Dublin City Council, and Maggie Law, head of design, EMEA, Electrosonic.

Conservation & innovation
On day one, Thursday 3 April, attendees will explore Dublin’s architecture on an informative walking tour.
“Dublin’s architecture blends medieval, Georgian, and contemporary styles, creating a dynamic visual landscape,” says a spokesperson from SEGD.
“From the elegant symmetry of Georgian squares to the bold modernity of Docklands, the city offers rich inspiration for graphic designers, exhibition designers, architects, wayfinders, media developers, creative technologists, and fabricators. Layered histories, intricate facades, and evolving urban spaces make Dublin a compelling design canvas.”
Day two will be held at the Irish Georgian Society at City Assembly House. This prestigious building, constructed by the Society of Artists in Ireland in the 18th century, was the first public exhibition gallery in Ireland and Britain.

An Introduction to Dublin’s Domestic Architecture
Charles Duggan, heritage officer for Dublin City Council, will discuss the heritage and development of Dublin in the Georgian era. Duggan works with a broad range of partners to champion research, interpretation and presentation of facets of the city’s architectural, archaeological, social and cultural heritage.
Duggan founded the C20th Architecture project, was project manager of the 14 Henrietta Street museum development and the Saint Luke’s graveyard restoration and park project, and is soon to begin work on a Conservation Management Plan for monuments and public sculpture in select areas of the city.
Furthermore, he has spearheaded several groundbreaking research projects undertaken by leading historians, such as Decorative Plasterwork, the Dublin School (1740s–1770s), Built to Last: Energy Efficiency in pre-1945 Dwellings in Dublin, and a major series on Dublin’s Wide Streets Commissioners.
Aligning Technology with Conservation and Accessibility Principles
In this talk, Maggie Law, head of design, EMEA, Electrosonic, will explore the integration of digital technology and experiences in conservation environments. Electrosonic, sponsor of the Spring Symposium, crafts innovative experiences by combining architecture, storytelling and technology.
