The Kahuna Falls interactive playground uses a compact Defender® SP-33 filter (only 838 mm in diameter). This single efficient unit filters 25, 000 gallons at a flow rate of 730 gpm. The Kahuna Falls installation is the first use of the Defender® filter for Adventure World, however there are more potential applications under review.

The Defender® filter scores highly in Australia where water shortages are a constant concern. Considerable sustainability advantages are offered by eliminating over 90% of the water waste associated with traditional sand filters or other “ultra fine filters” that require regular backwashing. Also, the reduced water and chemical loss as lower electrical use and construction savings mean that the Defender® filter offers considerable economic and operational advantages.
State Aquatic Centre
Neptune-Benson’s latest news from Australia follows Defender’s® selection for the State Aquatic Centre in Marion, South Australia. The Defender® was chosen for its small footprint, fine filtration capabilities (removing particles as small as 1 micron) and capacity to create the clearest and “fastest” competitive pool water.
Gordon Friend, Operations Manager at the State Aquatic Centre says, “The Neptune-Benson [Defender®] filtration system has given us fantastic water quality which we constantly receive praise from our customers. One of the most exciting aspects of the system is the extremely low water use. Our consumption is far lower than we ever expected.”
Dreamworld/WhiteWater World
The first user of Defender® advanced technology in Australia was WhiteWater World. Bob Tan, General Manager at Dreamworld/WhiteWater World says, “WhiteWater World’s Defender® regenerative media system reduces waste by more than 90% and saves over 22 million litres of water per year. Our park has been given the highest efficiency rating possible for a waterpark by the ERM, (Environmental Resources Management, Australia).”
