Alterface, a leader in interactive technology, has won a Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement, Limited Budget, for its interactive dark ride Popcorn Revenge in Walibi Belgium.

This is the second year that Alterface has won the award. Last year it won for Bazyliszek at the Polish Legendia. The TEA Thea Awards Committee praised Popcorn Revenge for its energy and successful new IP.

The committee said that the attraction “hands down, had us grinning from ear to ear. Brand new IPs are tricky to execute and difficult to immediately captivate the imagination, but Popcorn Revenge’s delightful mix of quirky characters, pun-filled signage and simple-yet-effective gameplay – all under the guise of a richly themed Bollywood cinema – delivered on that premise and more.”

Accessible and affordable

Popcorn Revenge was also praised for its accessibility and affordability, thanks to its small footprint of 400 square metres. The committee said, “this unique family attraction demonstrates excellence in design and décor and provides unique technical solutions in an accessible and affordable option for regional parks.”

“We are thrilled with this award as the ride has been produced on a very limited budget,” says Benoit Cornet, CEO & Founder of Alterface. “It does prove however that with the right combination of technology, creativity and dedication, it is possible to craft a high-quality and fun ride for family parks within an affordable budget. I’d like to thank the Thea Awards Committee for this recognition and congratulate our customer, partners and team members for such truly outstanding achievement!”

Popcorn Revenge is expanding

Popcorn Revenge has previously won the award for the Best Use of Technology as well as the Best Family Attraction 2019 in Europe for its Erratic Ride technology. The Popcorn Revenge IP allows for a varied merchandising programme. This generates more revenue for the park and expands the guest’s experience and interaction with the IP.

As part of its IP expansion, Alterface announced the launch of ‘Popcorn Universe’ at IAAPA Expo, extending the popcorn IP across a whole attraction or themed area. The company also just appointed Gillian Basso as its new Chief Information Officer.
