The ’90s sitcom nostalgia continues in New York city with news that a Friends pop-up experience is to open this September celebrating 25 years of the iconic TV show.
‘The One with the Pop-Up’ – as the immersive experience has been nicknamed – offers fans the opportunity to see set re-creations, props and costumes from the hit TV show, which first aired in 1994.
The Friends pop-up experience has been created by Superfly, Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Warner Bros. Television Group. It comes on the back of The Seinfeld Experience the same team is developing elsewhere in Manhattan. On both projects, Superfly is collaborating with JRA to provide planning, design and implementation.
Friendly photo opportunities
Tickets to the Friends New York City Pop-Up go on sale this Friday, August 2. The experience begins outside a replica of the fountain from the Friends title sequence. It later culminates with a photo opportunity on the orange couch in the show’s famous Central Perk coffee shop.
Here are some of the other selfie-worthy moments promised along the way:
- Peek through Rachel and Monica’s purple door.
- Relax on Chandler and Joey’s recliner after playing some foosball.
- Help Ross with the infamous sofa pivot.
- Learn Monica’s top tidying tips with Method Home Products.
- Surround yourself with Phoebe’s favourite things.
- Stick a turkey on your head.
There will, of course, be a retail opportunity, featuring exclusive merchandise.
“It’s been nearly 25 years since Friends premiered. But the fascination and universal appeal of the hit TV series lives on with fans of all ages,” says Peter van Roden, senior vice-president of Global Themed Entertainment at Warner Bros. Consumer Products. “We are excited to bring the Friends experience to life for our fans in a way that pays homage to the remarkable cast of characters, iconic sets and instantly quotable moments.”
Running for one month only, the Friends pop-up experience will be located in the heart of Manhattan’s SoHo district at 76 Mercer Street. Access to the retail store will also be available from 503 Broadway. It will open 7 days a week from September 8 to October 6, with a preview for AT&T customers on September 7. Tickets are priced at $29.50 + tax/fees and fans are encouraged to pre-book to secure their preferred time slot.
