Nicolas Kremer, is general manager of the theme park. He said on Tuesday, “We have a park that has very strong attractions and has historically attracted a lot of young adults and teenagers. We want to keep this clientele, but we also wanted to develop more family attractions.”

The theme park is based around the hugely popular character Asterix created by Albert Uderzo and René Goscinny.

Parc Asterix will develop its hotel offering as part of the plan to boost visitor numbers. Kremer says the park will plan “to accommodate families who would come from all over France and even further to spend a short stay”.

Parc Asterix adds New Hotels

With attendance of 1,850 million last year, the park hopes the development plan will help drive footfall to the 2 million figure and beyond.

The €16 million Pegasus Express roller coaster opens in June.

In addition, this year, the Hotel des Trois Hiboux will open fifty additional rooms. Furthermore, two new hotels will be opened. These will be the Cité suspendue -150 rooms in 2018 and Les Quais de Lutèce -150 rooms in 2019.

The park’s director added, “Our goal is to accommodate about 1,800 people each night in our hotels, with capacity up to 450 rooms.”

Opened in 1989, Parc Asterix is owned by the Compagnie des Alpes (CDA). CDA is the 4th biggest operator of amusement parks in Europe and the second in France. The park turned over 83 million euros in 2016, an increase of 3% on 2015. It has 200 permanent employees and over a thousand seasonal staff.
