Lagotronics Projects, the media-based attractions specialist, has revealed it will complete its latest Augmented Reality (AR) project in The Netherlands next month.
With ExplorAR, visitors can immerse themselves in unique worlds through the combination of the real world with AR. This mixed reality enables visitors to experience real environments whilst interacting with media content simultaneously. The technology can be used to instantly transport visitors back in time to experience historical locations or events without adapting reality or themed environments.
Making it work
Heading on foot with digital tablets, visitors are tasked with finding specific locations with QR codes. Scanning the QR code unlocks augmented reality environments, each featuring a mini-game such as a puzzle or a riddle. Guests may also be given instructions to follow or enlisted with finding special objects. The interactive elements make this a fun and interesting quest for the whole family.

The innovative project was partly made possible by a subsidy from LIOF, the regional development agency for the Province of Limburg. Keverberg Castle and Lagotronics Projects, with the support from subsidy consultancy TRIAS, obtained a subsidy under the LimburgToerisme (Limburg Tourism) programme, funding the development of the AR experience for Keverberg Castle.
Bringing history to life
As the last baron to live in the heritage asset, Baron Frits‘ skeleton was found in the Keverberg Castle’s gardens in 2015. Thanks to the latest AR technologies, Frits is now brought back to life as visitors search for objects that provide more information about his story.
Throughout various impressive spaces, Frits tells the tale of his life and also the background of his ancient castle – with each room awakening a different part of the past.
ExplorAR has been designed as a “fun, unique and educational outing” that is relevant for both families and educational groups.
Since 1979, Lagotronics Projects has worked with a wide range of leisure clients. Originally starting as an audio and lighting business, the company now designs and develops interactive experiences and attractions for amusement parks, museums, FECs, zoos and retail destinations.
The company recently announced its involvement in the new “Pradera Islands” theme park project in Pampanga, The Philippines. Lagotronics will work on five projects at the park, including a media-based dark ride.
