Holovis, a leading experience designer, has announced its latest product for the family gaming and mini-golf sectors.
360Golf provides an immersive golfing experience with automated scoring and customisable themed courses.
A core feature of Holovis’ 360Golf is based around its advanced technology golf balls, each integrated with the capability to digitally allocate balls to players. This also allows the system to monitor stroke count, with a digital scoreboard keeping track of player progress throughout each game and removing the need for operators to provide paper scorecards and pencils.
The technology is so accurate that Holovis say it will remove disputes over shots – allowing guests to enjoy a game in the knowledge that it is fair with no cheating involved.
Collaboration with AGS
Holovis teamed up with Adventure Golf & Sports (AGS) for the project, combining over three decades of mini-golf design expertise with the company’s own high-tech capabilities.
Holovis has worked with the AGS design team to create a series of pre-designed concept courses. There are several different concepts already available including space, a heist, a museum and a villain’s lair. These popular themes can be further customised by clients to meet their specific requirements, by adding more themed elements, effects, and gameplay elements.
The two leisure companies will also work with clients to define the look and feel of each course, considering key elements such as playability, interactivity, and the narrative of each individual hole, with the aim of making every game a unique experience.
Selectively-placed sensors situated around each course detect when a ball is hit, as well as when it has collided with certain objects, triggering effects such as lighting, projection, sound and other special effects. Holovis’ software team have the ability to program certain shots to be rewarded with extra points, providing extra challenges for players.
Technology meets classic entertainment
Peter Cliff, Holovis’ creative director says “360Golf is a fantastic blend of our innovative technology with classic family fun – our full creative capability from design to fabrication allows us to create a course for any location with nearly unlimited customisation to the theming and gameplay of the course.”
Scott Lundmark, AGS’ president says “We are truly excited about our partnership with Holovis to leverage their high-tech capabilities and combine them with our mini-golf design experience to create a fun, new product for many venues.”
Holovis has teamed up with AGS as the North American distribution partner for 360Golf, developing together a demo course that will be available to play at the upcoming IAAPA Expo in Orlando. Attendees will be able to play the hole, inspired by a classic carnival sideshow game, whereby players need to navigate a duck gallery to get a hole-in-one.

Holovis last year upgraded the VSimulator platform for the University of Exeter, designed to study how people interact with the built environment.
