Adventure park expansion approved for SkyPark at Santa’s Village, CA

A new project including an amusement park and campground has been approved for SkyPark at Santa’s Village at Lake Arrowhead, California.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors have put SkyPark on their ‘Good List’. They have recently approved a comprehensive expansion for the popular attraction.

Santa’s Village originally opened in 1955. It was the first franchised amusement park and one of three built by developer Glenn Holland. The new project expands the adventure side of the attraction. It will include an amusement park with a mountain bike park, hiking and tours. The SkyPark Bike Park will wheel out a collection of professionally designed bike trails, bike schools and rentals.

A forest playground is also planned with a wilderness adventure area including an exciting zipline and aerial park.

The original park had a monorail track, constructed in 1962. It was called the ‘Bee Monorail’. Now visitors will be able to enjoy a Skybike monorail. There will also be a fly fishing lake and stream.

Retail and restaurants have not been forgotten. In addition there will be wedding services with improvements to parking and circulation.

“This will be a wonderful family attraction,” says Board Chairman Lovingood. “And underscores San Bernardino County’s commitment to welcoming business investment.”

The site in total stretches to 23,389 square feet and comprises 19 original buildings. The mixed-use adventure park will be developed in the northern area, and will include a variety of activities and services. The southern portion of the site is, at present, undeveloped. The plan is for its development into a campground. This would cater for tent camping and also have facilities for recreational vehicles.

SkyPark is a year-round attraction. Peak season for the new project is likely to span November and December, with a projected 2,000 visitors a day. Summer is projected to host an average of 1,000 visitors a day, with low season anticipated to span spring and early autumn/fall.
