Safety and data firm to display occupancy monitoring software in Orlando

SenSource Inc., a creator of people counting hardware and reporting software, has announced it will be exhibiting at the upcoming IAAPA Expo, held in Orlando, Florida.

The SaaS company utilises 3D stereo-video sensors to count people, which are ceiling-mounted at ticketing gates and can distinguish between those entering or leaving the park when walking below the devices.

SenSource has designed the sensors so they can be placed at each gate throughout the park, communicating with one another and allowing real-time occupancy to be calculated. The status can then be displayed to guests, informing them if it is safe to enter or wait outside the premises.

In addition to total park occupancy, sensors can be placed within the park to monitor the occupancy of entertainment venues, food outlets and retail stores.

Guest expectations

Over 83 million people visited the world’s top 25 amusement and theme parks last year. This appears to be a significant figure until compared to the 254 million visitors from 2019, a figure provided by the Themed Entertainment Association and AECOM.

Historically guests would expect to visit amusement venues and spend the day manoeuvring shoulder-to-shoulder with other visitors in queues and throughout the park. The last two years however have changed guests’ expectations from operators, with crowded attractions becoming a timely concern due to the ongoing global pandemic.

To their credit amusement parks have quickly transformed, training staff and changing procedures in inventive ways to adapt, and a large focus has already been giving guests more space to breathe.

Rethinking park configurations to avoid bottlenecks is a solution, but one of the best ways to avoid them almost entirely is to keep count and restrict how many guests occupy the park at a given time.

Guest headcount has been a data set collected by ticketing systems for some time, but a real-time count of how many people are in a location is an altogether new calculation for many tourist attractions. Counting people is one of SenSource’s specialities, which developed a real-time occupancy monitoring system at the onset of the pandemic.

The SenSource team will be providing a live demonstration of their occupancy monitoring system in action at Orlando on 16 – 19 November at IAAPA Expo, booth #5437.

Last year, SenSource’s general manager Dan Aluise, spoke to blooloop about the company’s development, as well as its innovative SafeSpace Occupancy Monitoring Solution, alongside other key members of the SenSource team.
