Moongate Design Studio, a new international concept designer and development firm, has announced the appointment of Alex Chao as its founder–design director.
Moongate says that the appointment will enable it to be better equipped to support and grow with its current clients, as well as outlining the firm’s commitment to hiring top design talent.
Chao is making the transition from Universal Studios Japan, where he spent the past five years as a senior concept designer. He says that the move was a very challenging decision, as he had a particularly high level of respect for his colleagues and leadership team at the park.
Industry expertise
Chao learnt his trade by studying BFA, Illustration and Entertainment Arts at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, US. The new director also brings vast vendor-side experience, working previously at Thinkwell Group and The Hettema Group.
“I am thrilled about this new opportunity as design director and am eager to bring my skills and creativity to Moongate Design Studio,” said Chao. “Our team has big ambitions but protecting the creative process with diligence and hard work is important.”
Moongate says that it will continue to grow and hire top-level talent, with Chao being responsible for managing the expansion of the firm’s design services division.
Creative director Sol Song said: “Alex brings so much to our team and is enhancing our capabilities every day. Our goal is to give him the room to explore, design, to the boundaries of what is possible.”
Managing director David Newman added: “As a new company, leadership is vital to our culture and long-term success. Alex has the design credentials and more importantly, he treats people the right way.”
