Picsolve’s Hidden 3D Photography at ‘Derren Brown’s Ghost Train’ Thorpe Park

News

‘Derren Brown’s Ghost Train’ at Thorpe Park offers psychological scares and mind manipulation, in the immersive new attraction that opened on July 8th 2016.

Picsolve, pioneers in image capture, has worked with Thorpe Park to create two innovative new 3D photography experiences that form an integral part of the immersive experience.  Using hidden photography thrill seekers will be intrigued and snapped unaware as they wait to board the Victorian themed ghost train.

Andrew Walker, Operations Director of Thorpe Park, said, “The Derren Brown Ghost train provides a world-first experience that guests will never forget. We worked closely with Picsolve to ensure the seamless integration of the image capture into the ride itself and believe the results offer a particularly unique set up not just for Thorpe Park, but globally.”

As guests wait in line they are encouraged to ‘open their minds’ and stare into dirty window through which they will be surprised by a ‘hypnotic data-blast’.  The group’s reaction is snapped by a hidden camera. Later, there is a stop to scan for infections.  Guests place their chin on a stand, unaware that three cameras are simultaneously taking a 360 degree headshot photo.  These images are merged together to create a 3D head inside a glass jar, that guests can purchase at the end of their train ride.

Picsolve have created a specially designed ‘train ticket’ for the experience which also tracks guests through the experience, and is swiped at dedicated terminals to display an individual’s images. The ticket works by ‘self associating’ guests with photos (similar to online tagging) during the ride so they avoid having to scroll through hundreds of images to find their own.

Merchandise available to guests includes their ‘head in a jar’ and a print group photo in a 3D frame, which can be purchased from the retail point and is also available to download from the Picsolve app.

“Following 20 years of experience with IPs combined with our passion to deliver the ultimate photo moment, we understood how important it was to ensure the image capture experience mirrored that of the immersive, mind-boggling world of Derren Brown, ” explains Anika Devaney, Marketing Manager of Picsolve. “With our unique, hidden photo technology, guests are getting an enhanced experience that is a cut above the typical ‘static’ photo moment.”
