Leading manufacturer and supplier of high quality amusement rides and attractions, Intamin Amusement Rides, has released details of its record breaking new Wing Coaster which recently opened at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi – Flying Aces.
Over the last thirty years, Intamin has developed the most comprehensive range of roller coasters of any manufacturer in the world.
Flying Aces is yet another record breaking coaster from Intamin – a Wing Coaster incorporating the world’s tallest loop and steepest cable lift for a thrilling ride.
Design Inspiration
The idea behind the Flying Aces design originates in Ferrari history. Count Francesco Baracca was a famous Italian “Flying Ace” aviator of the 1900’s, who painted the Prancing Horse emblem on his bi-plane. His mother, a huge fan of Enzo Ferrari’s racing career, suggested that Enzo should put the emblem on his car to bring him good luck, thereby creating the famous Ferrari logo.
The Count’s story has not only inspired the overall theming of the Flying Aces coaster, for example the ride vehicles resemble biplanes. In addition, the ride experience itself has also been informed by the turns and loops of the Count’s acrobatic stunts, offering the rider a uniquely thrilling experience.
Record Breaking
Flying Aces provides a 135 second thrill ride at speeds of up to approximately 120 km/h along the 1.5 km track. Intamin has used state-of-the-art technology to created the world’s tallest loop at 52 m and the steepest and fastest cable lift incline at 51 degrees.
Designed to mimic the extreme gravity-defying flight acrobatics of a biplane, the coaster includes a non-inverted loop, rapid twists and turns and 10 zero gravity airtime moments.
