Maidstone Borough Council is to proceed with its plans to build a £790,000 adventure playground is the English county of Kent.
The Adventure Zone project will occupy a 7 hectare corner of Mote Park currently occupied by a skate park. Families will be asked to pay to use the facility, which will include a high ropes course, climbing wall, and a nine-hole adventure golf course.
In addition, the plans call for a cafe and visitor centre, a payment and admin kiosk, and overflow car parking. There may be further development over time. The council also wants to create a Segway hire operation. The skate park will be moved to another in the Grade II listed park.
Objections to the plans have been made by four residents as well as the Kent Wildlife Trust. They add that the scheme is in conflict with the council’s own 10-year development vision for Mote Park.
“The proposals would not harm the significance of the historic park nor adversely affect the setting of Grade II Listed buildings,” says a report to be considered by councillors.
Maidstone is the administrative capital of Kent and Mote Park is used for many events during the year.
