After spending five years building an “entire city” for the filming of Chinese horror movie Legend of the Demon Cat, its creators want to turn it into a theme park.
Set during the Tang Dynasty, the film is a thriller about a black cat that possesses a general’s wife. Terror ensues with “gruesome and unexpected twists” as a poet and a monk investigate. The set for the Chinese/Japanese co-production from Palme d’Or winning Chinese director Chen Kaige was built at a reported cost of $200 million. It apparently features “lakes, rivers, palaces, caves, glamorous buildings and parks”. The trailer below provides a taster.

Production of Demon Cat involved thousands of extras, 15,000 costumes and 150 shooting days. According to Variety, the film is now in post-production in Japan ahead of an anticipated 2018 release. Blooloop has no indication where the film set is located, but it’s thought it could be somewhere in China.
