Josef Wiegand, a family-owned manufacturer of toboggan runs, rail-mounted toboggans and stainless steel dry slides, is celebrating the successful installations at two European sites.
The first, found in Switzerland, is a huge four-slide facility that was completed in July and opened to guests in September. “Slide through the canopy and then into the cellar – ten seconds of adrenaline for young and old!” are the words used by Appenzeller Park in Herisau to describe its latest thrilling addition.

Guests will go a short distance through the wall outside into the open air, breaking through the canopy, with each slide seeking a different path throughout an outdoor space.
Sliders will be “swallowed by the ground”, gliding past the garden restaurant and ending up in the basement of the venue.
Each slide is between 63 and 67 metres long, beginning side by side at a height of 22.25 metres on the top floor of the hall.
With each slide offering a unique experience, the installation provides a great advantage of re-ridability.
Three slides are covered with transparent polycarbonate, whilst the fourth slide is a combination of an illuminated full tube and a transparent polycarbonate cover.
The delivery scope for the project also included a 12-by-2-metre starting platform, stairway, sensor-controlled traffic lights, video monitoring, 200 slide mats, a turnstile system and eight sound boxes.

Munich’s BMW Welt museum has also benefited from new Josef Wiegand addition, which awaits guests at the venue’s north entrance. The stainless steel 36.5-metre long slide has been cleverly constructed on a free-standing structure without the support of the building to meet permission regulations.
Unmissable from the outside, a blue line on the floor leads guests directly to an outdoor terrace where the fun begins, at a height of 14.6 metres. The branded attraction includes an on-slide picture feature, capturing the memories long after the temporary installation is removed.
Ensuring safety, the slide is suitable for sliders over 1.1metres in height and is closed during adverse weather conditions.
The slide at BMW Weld is open until 16 October 2022, from 10 am to 6 pm on weekends and public holidays.
Josef Wiegand is also a specialist in the manufacture of toboggan coasters, with the company recently completing three notable installations on the Asian continent.
