Peel L&P, the property developer behind Therme Manchester, has confirmed that demolition work on the £250 million wellbeing resort will be finished by Christmas.
The company is demolishing the 28,000-square-metre EventCity space to make way for the 28-acre resort opposite Trafford Palazzo.
Therme Manchester will be home to an all-season urban beach and a ‘next-generation’ water park. It will also include thermal bathing, a wellbeing spa, immersive digital art, an urban farm and botanical gardens.
In addition, Therme Manchester will feature the world’s first ‘living waterslides’, as well as 35 water slides, 25 pools, and 30 saunas and steam rooms.

The aquatic attraction is part of TraffordCity, currently home to shopping centres and an indoor snow centre called Chill Factore.
Peel L&P has also revealed that the £60 million Modern Surf project is on track at TraffordCity. It will be the first inland surfing facility in the region when it opens in 2025.
James Whittaker, Peel L&P’s executive director of development, previously described Therme Manchester is “an attraction like no other”.
Richard Land, chief development officer for Therme Group UK, said the project “solidifies our vision for 90 percent of the UK to be within easy reach of a Therme destination, with future developments planned for Glasgow, London and other key cities”.
New wellbeing resort for the UK
Therme Group currently has four resorts in Europe – Badeparadies Schwarzwald, Thermen & Badewelt Sinsheim, and Thermen & Badewelt Euskirchen in Germany, and Therme Bucharest in Romania.
The company is developing destinations across the world, in locations such as Canada, Glasgow, New York City and Frankfurt.
Therme Group recently announced plans to develop a new wellbeing resort in South Korea. The $200 million attraction will offer saunas, hot pools and wellness experiences.
Robert Hanea, chairman and CEO of Therme Group, says Therme is “a natural urban oasis where people can have fun, relax and unwind”.
