Aquarium of the Bay Wins IAAPA Brass Ring Award for Best-in-Class Website

News

Aquarium of the Bay’s website has been named a winner of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) 2008 Brass Ring Award. The award recognizes aquariumofthebay.com/ as the best new website in its class, which includes an international base of amusement and waterparks with over half a million to one million visitors, hotels and resorts, casinos, and for-profit zoos, aquariums and museums. The website was designed by Ninth Degree, Inc.

IAAPA’s annual competition recognizes excellence in marketing for amusement facilities worldwide, with the secondary goal of sharing ideas and concepts among members. The Brass Ring Awards highlight originality, creativity, and excellence in marketing. IAAPA is the largest international trade association for permanently situated amusement facilities and attractions, representing more than 4, 300 attraction, supplier and individual members from over 90 countries.

"The launch of our new website was part of an integrated marketing campaign aimed at branding Aquarium of the Bay as a unique marine nature center focused on the animals that live in and near the San Francisco Bay, " stated Aquarium of the Bay Communications Director Michele Bernhardt. "Our challenge was to communicate to local residents and tourists alike that the aquarium offers a wonderful combination of fun and learning for visitors of all ages. The amazing home page animation that Ninth Degree created for us captures that story in a highly visual way, while the site’s user-friendly navigation system makes information easy to find."

Bernhardt noted that significant new content is being added to the website as the Aquarium readies three major new exhibits to open in spring 2009. Octopus and Jellies exhibits will provide dedicated space for those species, while a climate change exhibit will feature land animals for the first time in the Aquarium’s history.
